I am hoping to start a discussion about training methods of successful high school girls programs. I’m talking about the teams who are consistently good at the state/national level, which shows to me a system that works, and doesn’t simply rely on random talented individuals. Why girls instead of boys? I believe there are numerous factors that are different for girls that deserve a discussion.
Obviously things that factor in are:
Team size
Girls typically maturing at a younger age
Talent vs hard work (seems to be more about talent).
Are there any fundamental differences between training high school boys vs girls? A coach has once explained to me that girls can be pushed harder with higher intensity because they tend to have less muscle Mass, and can recover from it much easier than boys.
I have researched and gathered info on some girls teams to start. There’s a lot of info out there about Great Oak. I know the training plans and styles of teams like Edina (mn) and Centerville (oh) and a few others. Then on the other hand, we know nothing about Fayetteveille Manlius or Saratoga.
Just like any successful runner, the obvious answers are consistent training, belief in your training, and hard work.
Does anyone know any concrete examples of successful girls training that produces these consistently great teams?
Just want to have a good discussion on something running related.
Thanks everybody!
