To the OP:
This workout tells us very very little.
Are you running 100 mpw and that 17 miler was the second run of the day in a tough week? And you could do the same thing tomorrow? Then this might imply you are fit enough for a low 2:2x.
Are you running 50 mpw and bang out a well-rested long run to feel confident? You might be closer to a 2:45 guy
Yeah, I can vouch for your last paragraph. If you've got decent speed, you can trick yourself in runs up to like 18 miles, but you'll have fuelling issues at 20 without decent mileage.
I averaged 55 mpw this spring leading up to a marathon. Ran a 1:14 half, could cruise at 6:00 pace, but I still hit the wall at 20 miles. Went from 6:00 average at 20 miles to a 2:43 finish.
