Since the last year or so, my daughter has gained an unhealthy amount of weight. As parents, my wife and I know that weight is a sensitive issue for pubescent girls, so we haven't openly discussed it with her yet. We do however (and always did) try to lead by example. My wife and I are both active rockclimbers and try to eat as healthy as we can. We count the calories of our and our daughters meals, and this is why we're surprised about her massive weight gain.
How could we as parents approach this problem in a sensible manner?
Move to the top of a very steep hill with no bus service.
But then she would only have to walk DOWN the HILL how hard is that? Moran.

Thank you for your kind advice, but as I stated earlier, we don't believe in "depression".

I'd take her to her doctor for starters. Have the doctor speak to her about her weight. Alone. Or take her to a nutritionist. Its not about the weight - it's about the food she is eating. She needs to be more aware of what she is putting into her body and the cost of putting too much bad stuff in it. Also, a doctor could be able to detect if there is an emotional element to the eating.
We have asked several distinguished osteopathic/naturopathic doctors for advice. They all were at odds regarding the weight-gain of my daughter. One suggested it could be caused by electrosmog (we live above an Apple Store), but I find that hard to believe.
Enroll her in a team sport , take her biking. There are so many things to try.
Tell her that here is a good roll model for her.
Tell that fat sack of $hit, aka your daughter, to put down the twinkies and pringles and get her fat azz off the couch.

Herr Klosterhalfen, is that you?
OP
Its in the head, she has to value herself.
She has to want to be a prize to a good man.
She has to not be a young feminist.
If your wife is a feminist man hater then ...

Lol
If she depressed then her poop poo poo becomes impacted and she hemorrhages internally and she dies.
Will you believe in depression after that?
Or are you a troll?
I know people who blew up and learned that their thyroid gland wasn't working anymore. There are so many things that can go wrong with that.

You are making it worse. Good job, Dad. She's eating to keep her feelings away because you don't believe in them.
Stop destroying your kid's life and get her to a psychologist who specializes in development. Denial isn't just a river in Africa.
Idiot.

every fatty wants to blame their thyroid for their weight gain...
Fat chance! Could it be the bag of doritos you eat every day? Naaah, couldn't be, doctor, can you check my thyroid?
Every seen a legitimately hypothyroid person? They are not morbidly obese and most
of their 'weight gain' is actually fluid.
You realize this is a troll, right? Can you not spot
that a mile away?

I apologize if my post came out as anti-lesbian/-transgender. I have nothing against these people in an artistic context, but there are lines that ought not to be crossed.
Regarding mental health specialists, our god, Xenu, is against them.

They are all European and not familiar with this "mile" you speak of.
200lbs @ 4'11? Haha that gave it away. However, if this were to be legit, a good concern father would've made an approach when she hit 150lbs.
Good laugh, 6/10
