I thought dogs were not very good distance runners. Except for the sled dog types.

They're not. That's how bad humans are.

What?!? Of course they are great distance runners. Between, wolves, coyotes, wild dogs of Africa, Jack Russels, border collies, etc., etc., they are better built for endurance rather than speed.

its funny how you think a 5k is "distance" running.

I don't like this at all. It is completely pointless and disrespecting to Bekele(world record holder for 5k in 12:37, and stunt like this takes away from his achievement for the last 13 years). If Bekele was interested in this kind of thing, he will run under sub 10 minutes for 5k with an Alaskan Malamute.
Don't be soft - its just a bloke getting towed by a dog.
This is the craziest thing I have ever seen.
This is about as legit as Teddy Mitchell's downhill Mile in Fayetteville back in the day, or anyone else who claims the old Cherry Street Mile in Tulsa as a PR.
great fun. Ditch the Olympic 10,000m and replace it with this.
Just watched the video, and anybody can do this. The dog is doing everything. This dude probably can't break 16 without the dog. What a joke. Why not just race the dog in a 5k on a greyhound track instead to see how fast a dog can run a 5k?
Not impressed, the dog does NOT looked relaxed.
Someone needs to explain the physics here. Even with the dog pulling him, his legs still need to move at 4 min pace. Is this like having the wind at your back?

He has broken 15 legit.
http://www.thepowerof10.info/athletes/profile.aspx?athleteid=12084yeah this is confusing me. First mile in 3:37? You'd think he'd want to try one on his own and see what he could get
These jokers aren't "running" anywhere close to sub 13 5ks. I bet they aren't even measuring distances or using watches. Being pulled by a dog doesn't mean the human body can go from maxed out physically at 15min pace to sub 13. STUPID

My mom's Border collie would easily run a quick 15 miles with me ... UNTIL she saw the squirrels!

I will also add that in the video the dude looked like he was going flat out, like 200m repeats at 800m pace. Based on how he was using his arms, there’s no way he’s running that fast for a 5k, let alone maintaining his form...unless the dude himself takes some crazy PEDs.
What kind of shoes was the dog wearing? Trainers?
Just wait until Nike makes some Doggie Vaporfly 4% for the dog and the runner uses the human vaporfly 4% shoes! F4%K YEAH!
looks like a good way to get injured overstriding like crazy. what if you get tired the dog won't slow down
Jakob Ingebrigtsen has a 1989 Ferrari 348 GTB and he's just put in paperwork to upgrade it
Is there a rule against attaching a helium balloon to yourself while running a road race?
How rare is it to run a sub 5 minute mile AND bench press 225?
