So the dog ran sub 13. The guy was pulled along for the ride.
That's actually remarkable. How much power does the dog have generate to move its own body + accelerate a human from 15:00 to 12:25 pace? I'm skeptical.

I have friends with dogs that can run with no load (they ride their bike with their dog) at sub 4 pace for 10 or more miles. It doesn't seem a stretch that the same dog could help a human go from 5 minute to 4 minute pace for a 5k. These people are obviously training for being towed efficiently by a dog.
It is kind of interesting, if a bit weird.

If he can run sub 12 while being towed by Rabie and then licks his balls after - then I would be impressed .
Or lick Rabie's balls .
It's CaniCross and it's legit.
The guy himself is a decent runner (sub 15 for 5k) and his dog is incredible. It's a different sport to running but it's very impressive. Check this out:

They're moving! Apparently his first mile was about 3:30 during that 5k and he thinks he can run it under 12 minutes in future. The guy never claimed he's the worlds best runner but he's the best at CaniX.
I don't like this at all. It is completely pointless and disrespecting to Bekele(world record holder for 5k in 12:37, and stunt like this takes away from his achievement for the last 13 years). If Bekele was interested in this kind of thing, he will run under sub 10 minutes for 5k with an Alaskan Malamute.
Guess the main difference might be that Bekele would pull the dog along.
Imagine what he could do with a car.
Are the dogs tested for PEDs?

If it's an International Federation of Sled dog Sports (IFSS) sanctioned event, yes, dogs are subject to drug testing. IFSS is a sanctioning body that covers both dryland racing including canicross, carts, bikejoring, as well as on-snow dog sports like sled dog racing (events like Iditarod are not IFSS though), skijoring, pulk racing.
There are things like track records, but there are no official world records, just like there aren't WRs in mountain biking, skiing, etc.
A sub-13 5K in canicross is definitely believable. It's not an insult to Bekele. You'd also expect a top skijorer to easily destroy Olympic champion cross country skiers.
Even if the dog is pulling him hard, maintaining sub 60/400m pace on an XC course without falling or anything is pretty impressive
Lol - This coming April Eliud will be breaking 2 with NIke's new project where he is pulled by a dog with a Nike Harass on.

A malamute would not be the dog to do it. They're slower than huskies, and even huskies are no longer competitive. Eurohounds crush them.
In any event, this is no more disrespectful than XC skiing, cycling, fog racing, auto racing, or sailing. It's a different sport that happens to be faster than normal running. Nobody is trying to take anything away from running.
I want to see some wipeouts!
what if he used a Saluki breed

Have you learned nothing from today's PC culture? Your intent and true actions are irrelevant. What matters is how someone decides to percieve your actions.
Ok maybe, he isn't literally trying to take anything away from running. But I still think Bekele with a Malamute is the way to go. Evan they are not as fast with top speed as the huskie or some other breads, they are still the greatest. They look way better and stronger than a lot of the ugly dogs you see at dog racing. For a 5k sprinting speed wouldn't be as important as endurance, and Alaskan Malamute's have this most. Also it wouldn't be possible for some one to run with a dog at sprint speeds because they would literally fall and couldn't control there own running movement.
Just found this. He gets moving pretty good, better than the other canicross clips I looked at tonight:
