Does anyone have insight on Loudon Valley's workouts? What are they doing to have incredible depth? Obviously this is not a coincidence.
I am trying to learn from the top high school programs.

I’m curious to know as well. The southeast is not typically known to produce strong distances runners.
The trick is recruitment! A lot of their top runners ran for another school at one point.
Search tinman training and critical velocity
Also Andrew Hunter
130 kids on the team. Solid mileage for varsity. Tinman style workouts (i.e. CV workouts).
Oh, a couple of kids transferring/moving into the school district. That helps too...
Excellent planning and coaching. No question. But, come on, #1 guy just "happens" to move to your school district?
Does anyone buy that? I'll maybe buy that they were relocating, but absent LV. Xc, would they have moved to that district?
No, no one buys that. Don't forget, their number 5 is a transfer as well.
At the VA state meet, which Loudoun Valley perfect scored, people could say, "They'd have done that even without their transfers." I agree, they'd have won easily without them, albeit not a perfect score.
At the NXR and NXN levels it's more competitive, and the fact is that they wouldn't have finished in the top 2 at NXR southeast and would be praying for an at-large.
The amazing thing is that several of the top south east teams were relying on transfers: Loudoun Valley, Milton, Green Hope.
To answer the OP's question- The Hunters are great coaches, but their training isn't any differebt from many other programs. They have a large team (130 boys+girls), run higher than average mileage, and preach consistency. There's no doubt that they are good coaches, but they also start with talent that's a little above average as well, although according to them their school is at capacity and no longer allowing freshmen from out of zone to attend (which it did allow for years, and still does when not at capacity).

Their #1 guy didn´t ¨happen" to move into the district. It was his family´s decision to move there...even though it meant a much longer commute for his father to work (in D.C.).
Really, QUANTITY student-athletes will allow QUALITY to emerge with ANY SYSTEM. Kudos to the Hunters for having a system in place. But, there´s more than one way to coach. Tinman? Daniels? Vigil? Hudson? Whoever. Plug 130 kids into a system & you´ll have a hell of a team! With all due respect to the legendary Joe Newton at York High School, but he had 200-250+ kids on the team!
I would be interested to see what a NXN coach would do at a small school or a small roster. Would there be the same success?
The reason green hope, milton, LV have good transfers is because they are in nice suburbs by major areas. If you are a good kid like Yanek and are moving to metro Atlanta you choose Milton. If you are a good kid moving to Raleigh you would want to go to green hope. If you are a good kid with military parents at the Pentagon you would want to go to Loudon Valley. It’s not called recruiting, it’s called being a reputable program in a highly sought after area.

While I can´t speak to Atlanta & Raleigh, I can tell you there are MUCH better schools in Northern Virginia (aka NOVA) than Loudoun Valley! It´s about running. Let´s not fool ourselves.
https://www.usnews.com/education/best-high-schools/virginiaHe's BAAAAAAAAAACK!!! That pouting, hateful, panties-in-a-twist Fair Facts Runner, with his bullsh*t "transfers" attack against Loudoun Valley High School again!!!
Look up this thread and read his drivel, and the responses. Everything you need to read is on Page 2, linked below. What a jackwagon.

Just for clarification, I am not Fair Facts Runner. [I did read Fair Facts Runner´s comments though (from your link).] I was simply contributing to the conversation (as someone from Virginia). No real dog in the fight.
Thomas Jefferson is a school you have to test into...no offense but I don't know if Affolder would have qualified.
Also, Loudon area, while far from DC, is a lot less crowded/suburban than the Fairfax Co. area. His family was living in rural PA and NY and are conservative Christian types so it makes sense.
Its like Carson Wentz...he lives in deep rural South Jersey and has a long commute to Philly but hes okay with this because he likes hunting and Christian values.

I had to move away from my area when my kids were little. One of the deciding factors of where I ended up in the new area was which schools distance program was the most successful and had the most tradition. Just like any good parent I choose the area that would provide my children with the best opportunities for what they were interested in.
To the OP, you can probably find good examples of Loudon Valley's workouts by searching for Tinman Training. Coach Hunter and Tinman have also been on a few podcasts that you can try to get some understanding from.
Tom "Tinman" Schwartz used to post on Letsrun a good deal. He stated numerous times about writing a book that I don't think he finished. If he still reads LetsRun I hope he sees that I called him a bum for not getting it out. Just because I'd like one. There would be a heck of a lot less mystery and could help elevate the masses if he'd just publish his book.
There was a pretty great and open interview/article posted with the Hunters maybe a month or two ago on here. I can’t find it at the moment, but I’m sure you could with a little digging.
Having read the article I would say the Hunter's are extremely good coaches. I'd love to work with them for a season.
