She has done a lot after high school. It just never involved running.
On the other end of the spectrum, you have Jordan Hasay, Shalane Flanagan, and Sara Hall. All were prodigies during HS.
Hasay, Flanagan, Hall?
None of them are in the top 10 of the combined 3000/3200/2 mile HS listing. (Hasay is close): The true HS phenoms are: Cain, Efraimson, Rainsberger, Oakley, Mortensen, Bjorklund, Knights, Cuffe, Murphy, Debalsi.
So where do we start.
Cain's all time best 1500m was run as a HS junior
Efraimson's all time best 1500m was run as a HS senior
Rainsberger's all time best 3000m was run as a HS senior (she did improve a little in the 1500/mile, but she is better at 3000m). 16th at most recent NCAA XC, right behind Braeur, who has a 9:47 PB over 3000m
Oakley. Hard to say, but she was 38th at NCAA XC, right behind Gabrielle Forrest, who has a College PB of 9:53 over 3000m...
Shall we go on?
It's good to have good performances in HS. Phenom level performance is not a future indication of anything.
Don't get me wrong. 4:03 over 1500m is very fast. But Efraimson's 4:03 performance in HS was simply an indication that she had the ability of running a 4:03. Don't read anything else into it.
