Lane would have a bit of an advantage over Tuohy if they both decided to face off at FL, since she lives very close and won't have to deal with the time or weather change.

She definitely has gone quite unnoticed - from a small Michigan school. D2 champion and state course record holder in 16:52. She's been very consistent this year...
Last year was a toss-up between Lane and Oakley. This year it's Tuohy v. Lane. They both return next year.
Has Lane said if she was going to go to NXN or FLN this year? Would be nice if we got that Tuohy-Lane showdown at nationals.

Don't count out Olivia Theis from Michigan. She's gone sub 17 four times this season on some tough courses. The national media forgets about her because she doesn't run on one of the coasts.
Has she broken serious records by large margins?
Lane ran minimum 10 seconds faster than:
Sarah Baxter (2 time NXN champion)
Julia Stamps (Footlocker champion)
Sara Hall (Footlocker champion)
Amber Trotter (Footlocker champion and highest speed rating ever by HS girl)
Jordan Hasay (Footlocker champion)
Kim Mortensen (who also held the 2 mile record) (Footlocker champion)
Kim Gordon (Footlocker champion)
Deena Kastor
Has Theis run anything comparable to that?
It’s funny. If you asked me off the top of my head who might win NXN or Foot Locker I could tell you the girls champs and contenders right away without skipping a beat, but I don’t think I could even name a single contender besides Brodey Hasty on the boys’ side. LOL! I only read the boards these days so I only hear about Lane and Tuohy. Haha!
Claudia wouldn’t have to deal with the time change if she went to NXN either...

She broke Goethals' course record. That's a pretty big deal.
Yeah she broke Goethals record and I'm sure someone's course record each time she broke 17. But she hasn't ran on courses that had times set by those studs, that's not her fault.
Also that list of studs is filled with a few duds post HS. November 26, 2017 I'll call Lane and Tuhoy as post HS duds. Neither will ever finish above 20th in XC or be Track All American.
Theis will have a slightly above average college career, being one of UM's top runners but I doubt being more successful than Finn.
Yes, it’s ridiculous that we can’t have a single race for the two runners who are indeed way above the rest of the competition.
What is also ridiculous is how late on the calendar the championships are run: two or three weeks beyond the NCAA championships. I think its very hard for these athletes to peak that late in the year, especially after all those state races.
If nxn nationals are next week can kids from California not run it? How do they qualify.
Much easier when there was only footlockers. Nxn is good for kids 2-5 on each time but the top runners should just square off at one race.
With Hasty running NXN, we will see NXN crown the girl and boy national champion for thee second year in a row (it has crowned the girl champ for a few years already)
Unless FL does something, it will fall off. The race is scheduled after NXN. They have to offer a wildcard to the top NXN runner who did not make it to FL. That way, they will always crown the national champ. Runners choosing FL will be sure to run against the best.

If anyone has an issue with that then they need to grow up.
Ever heard of Casey Clinger?

Interestingly in a Milesplit Q&A, Hasty suggested a similar wildcard system offered by FL. He would have liked to run FL. He suggested a wildcard for the NXN regional winners. The point is that FL needs to do something if they don't want to become irrelevant in 4 or 5 years. Current HS girls do not remember a time when FL crowned the girl national champ. It may be the same for boys soon.

CIF State meet is the CA NXN qualifier.

About the 5th best high school miler / maybe top ten 2 miler last year... what's your point?
He got a lot of press in high school and I think was highly over rated in cross country, though he's done well this fall.
Good for him.
Last year's Letsrun.com poll proved that Foot Locker is king.
NXN is for those that can't quality for Foot Locker.
Foot Locker is proven. NXN is pure NIKE schools.

So you feel that "insert name here" is better than Hasty and should be crowned National Champion?
Gang - here are some basic financial facts:
FL market capitalization (value of all common stock shares outstanding) = $4.9 billion
NKE market capitalization = $96.8 billion
NKE balances of just cash and short term investments = $6.1 billion
In other words, NKE has enough cash to just buy FL tomorrow for a premium (and make all FL stores in malls across the USA into Nike stores).
Yes, FL fans, if Nike wants, they could buy out and shut down "FL nationals" anytime they want...
Actually, given the growth of online shoe purchases, I'm surprised that FL is still hangin' in there... I was in our local mall the other day and FootLocker looked pretty empty. Nike is probably waiting until they can buy FL properties a lot cheaper than $4.9 billion.
I really do not expect to see Footlocker survive as an independent corporation much longer - maybe 3-5 years at best.

I agree - I've been watching foot-traffic at our local mall, and it seems that FL days are numbered. I hope they are ringing up revenues online better than I realize, or else at some point just the real estate they own will be worth more than the brand - at which point they will be bought out by someone.
NXN seems to be a meet that will be around for many years, but FL's future seems much more precarious.
