I’m in college and on my own for food. I started out buying fresh produce but it’s kinda spendy, especially if it comes in a steamable bag thing. Spinach is also kinda expensive- $3 for a bag that has less than 150 calories of food. So what’s the poor person way to eat your veggies?
I’ve found oatmeal and rice to be reliable, somewhat nutritious carbs. Beans, eggs, tuna, and chicken for protein. I figure fruit’s always going to be expensive no matter how you buy it, but I don’t need huge amounts of fruit on a daily basis like I need veggies.
Disclaimer: I’m not poor. In fact, I probably have more money in the bank than 95% of my peers. I’m just sick and tired of breaking the bank for a nutritious diet. I don’t want to give into the fast food way of life, but my grocery receipt is a slap in the face every time I look at how much I spent on produce, especially compared to how many calories I got from the purchase.
So what’s your secret? How do I crack veggies?
