There are barely any quotes from her. How does she "come off bad"? She's not a complainer- she's tough and she keeps after the dream while raising the family. 99.99999% of others could not/would not do this.
Poorly written is correct. Here is the story.
A decent 1500 meter runner was unable to find sponsorship. She checked with several companies and EVERYONE said sorry Charlie. Brooks stepped up and said we can put you on an ID contract which isn't very much but better than nothing. SHE SAID YES. Then complained about what she wasn't getting from Brooks. Keep in mind that Brooks was the only company that offered her anything. She then used her success as a platform to continue to complain. Had she utilized her knew found fame to be thankful, then she would probably be in a contract right now. Instead, she has chosen to go another route and will now never receive her worth from any company.
It's about a lot more than running fast. And it appears that lesson has been lost.
No quotes. What a joke.
How did they know the specifics of her contract?
Because she was complaining.
Amanda Eccleston was on the exact same contract. She was very appreciative and it turned into a full fledged sponsorship. She didn't have to move. She didn't have to change coaches. She just smiled and said thank you for putting me on theID program when no one else would.
We will see how it works for Sara.
I respect her accomplishments, and appreciate that she did so while having a family and a full-time job. I can't tell if she managed her opportunity well or not -- not enough information. But this does tell us something: What is a 4:04 worth? Nothing, really. Sara Vaughn, despite her talent and accomplishments, is -- in LR terms -- a high-level hobby jogger. Her interest in running costs more than it brings in. That's hobby jogging, regardless of how fast it goes.

Sponsorship is all about assisting the sale of a product. This is how you sell a car using an athlete.

I hate it when pro runners say"he/she deserves a shoe contract."
Keep the day job.

Ok, I got it. I am in over my head- just a fan who respects what she is doing. You guys might be shoe company people or some kind of insiders who have a passion about this particular situation. I have no such energy. I wish her well, that’s about it.
Poorly written article from rw-I'm completely shocked...
Pretty hot, good story, normal person with a real life outside being an awesome athlete, seems like someone more of a lifestyle company would throw a few dollars at - lulu, athleta....

Sold! I would like to purchase some Meldonium from you
I thought this was an interesting story about the business side of running. She’s not complaining—she’s saying she’d like to be a sponsored athlete but can’t get a contract. Which is a shame for her but understandable from a business standpoint since she’s probably already had the high point of her career.
I’m actually pleased to see RW have a real story about competitive running and the business side of track and field.

WRONG. I thought this was an athlete's side of track and field. Most certainly not the business side. The companies are way too smart to get into the decision process involved in sponsoring an athlete. Sara Vaughn was way too vocal to ever receive a real sponsorship deal. She has now put herself in the Oiselle Victim Track Club. A group that receives a uniform and a small bonus structure. The same thing that this article is complaining about.
An athlete that thinks their performance is related to their contract is terribly mistaken. You must sell the brand. An entry level contract is set up to see if the athlete has a special way of selling the brand. Sara Vaughn failed the test. She did exactly the opposite. She gambled and thought that when she received some national attention it would be a good time to say "I need a sponsor". Instead of "thank you to those that helped". The gamble was obviously a failure as she is still unsponsored.

Maria is everything, she invented women's corporate sponsorship.
https://i.ytimg.com/vi/Wumv5ZK1BW4/maxresdefault.jpgI would be weary as a sponsor, that is why she is in the article, companies talk.
She is blacklisted at Nike.
She is blacklisted at Brooks.
Companies talk.
She burned Nike and Brooks with arrogance and lies so the other sponsors will not go near her. And she lives in a big house in Boulder so life is not bad.
Doesn't her husband have a job? Stop crying, we all have to work.

Not sure what runners make , but Maria Sharapova extended her 8 year , 70 million dollar Nike contract.
