Until some big names move to ultras, you’ll have these types of big drops in time. Not enough elite runners compete in these to give an indication of solid times.

Was there a pace car, or is it accepted that she ran the full 100 miles on the honor code?

Big names? Camille crushed 2:26 marathoner Magdalena Boulet by 24 min at Tarawera earlier this yr. Ann Trason is a legend and her 100 mi record had stood 26 years until it was barely broken a year ago. No one is stepping up and beating this record any time soon.

Lets try your "theory" this way: until all the sub 2:05 guys give the 100 meters a shot that record is soft. Any sub 2:05 guy can run sub 9.6 for 100m.

You mean like the pace car that paces the marathon leaders along the course?

To be fair Ann Trason's 100 mile record was done during a 24 hour race. After a 13:55 for the 100 miles she kept moving for another 40 miles or so. 230.275 km / 143.11 miles
I think, just short of the WR at that time from 1988 Angela Mertens 232.107 km

http://statistik.d-u-v.org/getresultperson.php?runner=68591Camille is totally amazing and should be UROY, but it is not really fair to compare her to Trason. Trason is still ultra GOAT by a long shot. Still holds Leadville record 24 years later. Won Western States two weeks after winning Comrades two years in a row. 14 titles at Western States. Still holds 12HR road and track records (held for 26 years). Held a ton of other records for a very long time in addition to 100k worlds a couple of times.

If they had taken a 12-hour split for Camille, she would have beaten Ann's 12 Hr records by over three miles. Also, Ann competed in a different time. Like comparing Zatopek with Haile G.
Camille is faster for 50 mi and 100 miles than Ann, only 2 plus yrs into her career. She's simply faster and with due time could exceed everything Ann did and also demolish the 24 hour and beyond records.
Keep on dreaming and eating your banana bread.
This is not going to happen. Bekele is not going to move into ultramarathon running because after he retires from Marathons he is literally done. His body is exhausted like any other top marathon runner. Not to mention that ultrarunning has a different skill set as running a Marathon in just over 2 hours. Two completely different things.

The McMillan Calculator equates it to a 2:12 marathon for a woman. She may have achieved the best performance of all-time, any distance.
What does this mean? Could women really close the gap on men the longer the distance? Some people are extraordinary, and this may be the case.
Calculator is not set up for ultras.
Brilliant performance but no nearer to the men than at shorter distances.
Great to see a genuine ultra runner not one of these stunt runners seeing how many days that they can hike
I want us to agree with each other and be friends. I wish I was respected here. I like eating proper banana bread, so it is a bit ironic telling me to eat it when I already want to anyway. I already know Bekele won't run ultra's because I think he probably isn't interested anyway. He deserves a brake from all his achievements. He will be busy with Haile helping Ethiopia develop into a stronger country, like in Europe. He won't need to proof any running after he gets the marathon world record next year.

Camille runned the ultra performance of the year and deserves major praises but Ann is still on another level in the ultra wolrd... On mountain trails Camille is nowhere as strong.
Also not fair to compare a 2 year career to a 15+ year career. Imagine if everyone had written off Ann after DNFing her first two Western States? It's only a matter of time history is completely re-written by Camille and possibly others. The ceiling has been broken.

Camille is an excellent runner but not even close when compared to Anne Trason. With 14 Western States wins and most of them in times which are as good as nowadays winners. Anne was great in road and trail races, Camille only in road races.
Camille is new to trail running and had injuries and mishaps. Her speed pushes the limits of what women can do, to the point of putting her health in jeopardy. Her performances at Tarawera, White River 50, and UROC were stellar. Why should she put her health at risk with trail running, when she has speed like never seen before and can continue to shatter records? She doesn't have to follow the common path. We should appreciate how she's raising the bar for women.

I think she'll get there is she wants to - she's certainly got the speed for it.
Belated Birthday wishes to Camille a Christmas baby!

Pluralizing a word doesn't require an apostrophe.
