I agree that the major deal-breaker in her decline was weight.
Her form was perfect for her imperfect structure. All of her idiosyncracies were to counterbalance the fact that her skeleton is not perfectly straight like those with great form.
You are crazy if you think a coach should not have tried to clean up her form. If you know anything about biomechanics, you should know that her arm carriage causes her upper torso to sway, which is not only wasted motion, but the muscles have to work harder to counterbalance the sway. With that said, as a young phenom competing against inferior athletes, you can get away with this bad form, but as Mary competes against better competition and has to run faster, everything matters.
