I wish running had such a podcast with an authentic, intelligent, different type of dude doing this about running. Rogan is wealthy, educated, experienced in his craft, has another career going, etc. Need someone real.
Running Podcasts -
House of Run - Couple of running nerds like the posters here pontificating about everything T&F XC. Some good guests have been on also.
CTolleRun - Good interviews with the best of the sport
Carrie's great to look at but her voice...
Listening to that little bit of that podcast made me dumber. A bunch of guys sitting around for 3 hours talking about a bunch of crap they know little about? No thanks, I prefer different kinds of torture.
Why is it that the general public always feels so inclined to voice their ridiculously ignorant opinions about distance running? Is it because it looks so easy (just run as fast as you can) but they have no clue what it takes to be fast? So you must share your stupid opinion about an activity that looks so easy and simple to master?
I would like to see one of these yahoos try to prove how much of a man they are by trying to beat a 2:45 female marathoner. Please, please do it. Instead of beating your chest, go out and prove it. Congrats, maybe you can beat a physically inferior human in a feat of physical strength. I would watch that YouTube series as they fail miserably and are humbled back into their den of mediocre opinions.

The meanness and stupidity of the Breitbart community never ceases to amaze. The author rambles incoherently about NYC being a long-time hellhole rather than talking about Shalane. In the comments, many people call Shalane a tranny. Others call her unhealthy. Some are angry that this is being treated as newsworthy at all because women aren't as fast as men. And then there's the contingent who somehow view her marathon win as a victory for Trump and a blow to liberals.
Wow. I thought I was embarrassed by fellow posters here, but the commenters on that article are a whole other level. Almost all of them seem miserable to have a beer with or try to hold a conversation with.
I follow Breitbart on Facebook and check in on the comments section from time to time. It’s quite the miserable, negative bunch.

Who is this "Shalene" that Breitbert is talking about?
I can't stand Joe Rogan, my buddy is a smart guy, a surgeon, who listens to Rogan religoulsy, buys the kettle balls makes the shakes.
I just cannot understand it.
Joe Rogan is a type of person that really irritates me, they are pseudo smart. They watch a Ted talk or read a wikipedia article and think they are an expert on the subject. So much pseudo science, and pseudo-intellectualism disguised as aw shucks down to earth self taught hokey. They can't lose 5 lbs without telling every human they meet for years afterwards how they did it,

She's dropped most of her MN accent. It used to be god awful.

You guys hating on Joe Rogan are like the people on the podcast saying ignorant stuff about distance running. You haven't experienced it enough to have a well grounded opinion. He has had one of the top 10 most downloaded podcasts for a long time now. Millions of people of all types listen to him, and it's not by accident.
When you listen to the news, are you listening to it for the personality and lifestyle of the anchor? Of course not. People listen to this podcast for the content of it.
There is such variety on it that you can't make generalizations like "it's just some pseudointellectual meatheads." The particular podcast this thread focuses on was with some of his dumb comedian friends. They got high and had random conversations. That type of podcast is not my cup of tea either.
Only about a third of his podcasts are ones like that with dumb comedians or about MMA. The rest are totally different. Most of them are interviews with scientists, professors, writers, directors, and musicians. These podcasts are generally very intellectual. He is the best interviewer, the best conversationalist I have ever heard. It makes them easy to listen to, and his status as an "ordinary guy" enables him to ask questions that people who aren't experts would want to know.
He brings in phenomenally interesting guests. Thanks to this podcast I have been exposed to lots of people and ideas that I wouldn't have been otherwise. People don't listen so much for Rogan's opinions or what he has to say. They listen for the guests and Rogan's ability at getting their ideas out of them. Joe Rogan is a facilitator. He isn't the actual content.
Try listening to one of his podcasts with Sebastian Junger, Jordan Peterson or any other non entertainers if you want a fascinating intellectual discussion.
I would certainly never say that he isn't successful. He is wildly successful. The show Two and a Half Men was also wildly successful, and I wasn't impressed by it either. You are absolutely correct that he gets great guests, though. Can't argue that either.
But I don't think Joe does a great job with the guests he gets, and I don't find him or his takes on subjects interesting, from the episodes I've listened to. I'll check out some of your recommended ones.
Bro alert. Personally, I'm just biased against podcasts because I don't like to listen to other people talk and I can usually consume the same information in a much shorter time by reading instead of listening to a podcast.

No wonder Republicans like this. It’s their pass time. Sit around a table talking about stuff they are completely ignorant about and 100% wrong and thinking it’s all facts. It’s hard to watch. Alex Jones is 100% wrong on everything but at least he’s funny to watch. These guys make me wanna bludgeon my ears.
Is "pass time" Democrat for "pastime"?
Nailed it... the guests with Joe Rogan are great... thanks for the Junger suggestion. Been great.
You mean kind of like when the atheists of Letsrun talk religion or when libs try to act patriotic.
Haven't watched the podcast where they talk about Shalane, but keep in mind anybody whose job it is to talk as much as Rogan is going to have thousands of clips that make them sound stupid. Nobody is immune to this, it just goes with the territory.
I really like the diversity of guests he has on. I don't usually make it through the whole 2-3 hour show, but found the ones with Randall Carlson especially interesting.

Here is a gem of a response on the brietbart article:
"I am a woman and I’m not a feminist but I don’t have a problem with women doing things they like to do or jobs for that matter, as long as they can physically do them. I don’t think female firefighters or coast guard people or fighting in combat situations are a good idea. But running a marathon? Does that really bother you that much? She won, period. Deal with it, skippy."
She doesnt believe women should be in the coast guard, but "doesnt have a problem" with women running a marathon. How enlightened!
That's funny. It's probably the first or second best branch for women and she doesn't think that women should be in it. I've never been in the military, but if I could do it again I would join after high school. My impression for a while has been that if you have the choice, join the Air Force or Coast Guard for good living conditions, smart colleagues, and less risk of being killed.
But all branches have support jobs that could be suitable for women. Maybe she's not so smart if she posts that comment, but maybe that's to be expected of people on that website.

Maybe she thinks in order to guard the coast a person should be tall, and most women just are not tall enough to guard that much of the coast.
Rogan is a stoner version of Charlie Rose. Take it for it's worth, but he does get into some good in-depth conversation, something rather lacking in modern media.

Come on man, surely you didn't think an author at Breitbart would want to note the accolades of an American named Mebrahtom.
