Poor marketing on all fronts then. ROKA has been hyping this reveal and her video shows a close up of Asics shoe. She cannot run for BTC not being under Nike. She can be the main face for overpriced ROKA running gear.

She might find out why runners switch to the triathlon
Compared to the time she was spending training, marathon training will be considerably less. The accessory stuff does not take the time of cycling or swimming. Plus, the constant relocation to Australia and Spain are not ideal for raising a newborn. The biggest obstacle is, who will coach her and the transition to only running. Does she maintain the cross training, which clearly helped her?
Is Kara goucher update?

Not to mention in triathlon you have to fly around the world to win enough points to qualify
I'm sure the logistics of training for a marathon are easier than training for a tri, but the notion that marathoners are only spending 12 to 14 hours a week (or just one-third of the time of a triathlete, as mentioned in the post above) working on their craft is ridiculous. Let's see how much time she has to spend sleeping and working on core, physio, etc., when she's running 120 miles/week.
Whatever the correct numbers are, it's tough to disagree that triathlon training is a lot more time consuming

Totally agree it's more time consuming. But I think non-marathoners underestimate the amount of time you lose from sleeping/eating/lying around when your mileage jumps from 50-60 MPW to 110-140 MPW. She may well go nuts just from that part of it.
But agreed -- there's no way I'd want to have to deal with all of the travel, gear and other headaches from competing in the tri.

Her objective, as per Twitter, is to win gold in Tokyo. This is, of course, a ridiculous goal. For a gold medal to be a realistic possibility, Gwen would have to be significantly more talented than any American female marathoner currently competing.
I don't think Jordan Hasay legitimately believes she has a shot at winning in Tokyo, and Jordan is almost certainly far faster now than Gwen ever will be, even with marathon-specific training.
Don't forget about me.

This is an odd thing to say, especially after NYC. If the Olympics were held tomorrow, and Kenya and Ethiopia were to pick their three fastest runners (as unlikely as that would be), Hasay would have the 6th fastest time in the field this year. She doesn't have a great shot at winning in Tokyo, but I'm sure Jordan thinks she has some shot.
GTFO of TOWN!
Anyone else going to call BS on this? GOAL: Olympic GOLD.
I'll be impressed if she is top 20 @ Olympic trials.
Not going to run under 2:30.
Please, embarrassing stating you want to win Olympic Gold. Deena Kastor didn't win GOLD, Flanagan didn't even medal.
Saying that is just shows how little she knows about the sport. Did she happen to see Dibaba make her debut? and DESTROY PEOPLE. That is someone who will run 2:17-2:19 SOLO at Olympics in TOKYO like a #BOSS.
I will say though, we have a LEGIT medal contender in Jordan Hassay #BOSS
Sorry, but Triathlon is just not even remotely as competitive as running. It is AMERICA vs EUROPE vs AUSTRALIA. The talent pool is soooooooo SMALL.
Fan of her and wish her well. She should be competitive at a minimum. That said, she had a pretty good go at being a runner as an NCAA cross and track athlete. While she was successful, she didn’t perform at a level that even got her sponsored out of college. Seems like a big jump to go to being the type of athlete that can compete with others who won NCAA and world titles while of college age.
Regardless it’s a smart move. Nike will pay her well as she’s great for the brand. Major marathons will pay up to have a photogenic American Olympic champ in their race. She doesn’t need to compete with Dibaba or Flanagan to end up making a lot of money.
She was also 10 days pregnant when she ran they New York Marathon. She really slowed the last 3 miles, if I remember to a 7:30 pace for the last 3.
She can definitely be a sub 2:30 marathoner. I'd guess 2:27-2:28 which would give her a chance to make the Olympic Team and be a top 10 finisher in Boston, Chicago and NYC. The Wisconsin connection with Schumacher seems like a great path.
Anyone want to take a shot at a timeframe for her, for races? Needs a qualifier for trials, half or full?
All fun speculation, of course.
This wasn't a play for the money. There is plenty of money and far more shoe, gear, bike, clothing, etc. sponsorship opportunities to be had as a world tri champ and Olympic Gold medalist. As a triathlete with her resume she could be the face of Nike running shoes and clothing, and Polar hear-rate gear, and Chap-Stick, and TYR swimwear, and Vericool bikes, and Hyperbuck accessories. Triathletes drop a lot more dough on gear than runners.

Jesus this is so fvcking typical of a white female American athlete. The narration etc. Like a TV commercial, yuck. Are you guys actually eating this up?
Only a handful of countries follow triathlon. And of those countries , like the USA, it is a small potatoes. Side note, that Skechers Commercial run during the NY Marathon broacast with Old Kara and Bitter Meb, is enough to turn anyone off running.
People that do great things never accomplish it from a place of being super analytical. People that accomplish great things are people that dream things that are offensive to the analytical mind. Being super analytical and sophisticated is actually more of a stumbling block to greatness than anything. If you want to be mediocre set realistic goals and try to analyze your way there. If anything you will find yourself trapped by your own unbelieving, analytical, critical, and offended mind. If you have an analytical type of personality that's fine but make sure you don't put the cart in front of the horse. Also analysis from a distance without intimately knowing the details of a persons life is absurd. Its like trying to piece a hundred piece puzzle together with only a handful of pieces. The reality is that any person that has ever made it to the top at some point along their journey had to believe they could make it their. At some point they had to come to faith about it, have a somewhat hopeful outlook towards accomplishing something great or at the very least be open to it. Onward with your critical and harsh perspectives founded on only a few grains of sand.
No disrespect intended, but saying she's going to win gold is a bit of an indicator that she has no idea what she's up against.

If she wants to even make the team, she'll have to beat Jordan Hasay, Molly Huddle, Amy Hastings, Allie Kieffer, Sara Hall, Kellyn Taylor, and more. I feel like she doesn't have the background necessary to succeed at that level, and if she tries to suddenly train at Jordan Hasay's level, she runs the risk of getting injured. It's conceivable that she would make the team, but it's bizarre for her to set her sights on Olympic gold in 2020.
Agreed that she is off-base to announce that she is even chasing the Olympics. But she would know well what that would take, since she is Olympic Champion and great at running.
She already beat Sara Hall and a bunch of others (Rogers, Scherf, Bruce are good runners):
