Interesting. I didn't see anything in the article where it said how long the ban is for, but is this an over-reaction?

Good for FSU...and its student body. Greek organizations exist only for losers who have to pay for a social life.
I think it's an overreaction. I'm sure a lot of the Greeks on campus adhere to the law, and a blanket ban on all frat/sor activity is not fair.
Instead, make the punishment fit the crime. Simply put every FSU student who is under age 21 in jail for a week if s/he drinks alcohol. And put every FSU student who *supplies* alcohol to someone underage (conspiracy to commit a misdemeanor is a felony, remember) in prison for a year and a day.
That should straighten things out, and the law-abiding brothers and sisters would not be unfairly punished.
Can they ban their athletic teams next for all the underage drinking and academic plagiarism?

Unfair to privileged white boys!
How we gonna git drunk 'n laid ?
What's this cuntree coming to?
Good for FSU, but I'm not really for "banning" much stuff. What is sad is that grown men and women feel the need to join clubs with silly names and ridiculous "pledges" and rites of passage. It sounds like something middle schoolers would be into, not 19 and 20 year olds.
"we're Sigma Alpha Nu! No girls allowed!!"
Having been to several colleges as an undergrad, grad and college administrator, I do not see why any college would recognize Greek organizations. The universities set themselves up to be subjects of lawsuits for recognizing them. They try to exert some control but they do not enforce regulations. In my years at a university with a big Greek tradition, I went to a lot of frat parties--if they were going to give away beer it would be rude not to accept---and the university never busted the party for underaged drinking.
If Greek organizations want to organize off campus, then let them do so. If they want to form intramural teams then let them, but do not recognize them as official organizations.
Not an overreaction at all, sadly.
Fraternities and sororities are in need of reformation. They will probably get it sooner than Islam will.

I almost over-reacted when I read the first paragraph of this article
https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2014/03/the-dark-power-of-fraternities/357580/If they took it one step further and banned the football team, they would have no crime at all on campus and fewer STDs.
The main way they are "greeks" is by copying the greek system of pederasty

This is the correct answer. If only U of F would follow their actually quite good academics would be better known.
I am almost 40 years old and have never heard anyone state how a fraternity or sorority was a benefit to their lives in a positive. I lead a team of over 20+ people and I think those that were associated with frats/sororities are very embarrassed what went on in those places.

No doubt. We pay full ride scholarships to the criminals on the football team who aren’t even students, but we are cracking down on the frat boys.

No doubt, yo. The victimization club is tightly restricted. No white males allowed.
In 10 years college kids won't believe frats and sororities ever existed.
Same STUFF will still go on somewhere though.

Make the drinking age 19 and frats disappear off the campus because all the kids will be in clubs and bars. the frats aka under age drinking clubs will no longer be needed.
