The absence of pacers turned it into a race. Flanagan was the best racer!

That s the ups and downs of distance running. Seems like yesterday was 3rd in Oly trials and being carried from the finish line in a wheelchair

Class? Have we been watching the same Shalane?
She has been overtly nasty and unsportsmanlike throughout her career, going back to her days at UNC; especially when it comes to her fellow US runners.
I'm always happy to see an American at the top of the podium, but I have never been a fan of her attitude.
I have noticed this also. Selfish pig Shalane is only happy when she gets all of the attention. Wonder why Kara Goucher left BTC!
alpha boys
How about a historical look back at Miki Gorman... great time for Letsrun to do a then-and-now piece

Hasay would destroy her if they ever ran again. Shalane would never consider such a humiliation. She better retire now and take all her negative comments with her to a nice "good bye".
Flanagan hit 20 miles at 1:54:39
Flanagan hit the finish in 2:26:53. So Shalane's last 10k+ 8 meters was 32:14. That's hilly as hell.
Hasay's 10k pb on a perfectly flat track is 31:39.
This talk of retirement came because Shalane now knows she can't beat Jordan Hasay. Molly Huddle would beat her also. Shalane will not make the next Olympic team.
Her attitude stinks and this is why many are not happy for her victory.

which means very little since Hasay's strength is even pacing. She would gap Shalane before the last 10k and win.

Riiiight. Because this is the same tactic she has used in every one of her professional wins.
How is anyone to believe that she couldn't possibly be on something. Her 10k pr is 4:55 and dropped at 503 25th mile and closed her last 5 miles in 512,508,512,503,512: Yea maybe if she was running a half that went out slow but no way I'm buying that at the end of a marathon.
No reason to retire, her coach said she's in the best shape of life. Go to Boston for an epic battle against 'thon youngsters: Hasay, Huddle, Craig, Hall, etc.
Expect Great Things!
