What was the "problem" that started for Mary Keitany at 3 pm yesterday?

Shalane has recenty shown less class than Jordan has on any given day of the week. Also - if not doping by Shalane - then who is watching whether Nike paid Keitany and others to bag the race for Shalane? It sure looked like the Black Sox out there today. Shalane could not have asked for a more perfect opening 1/2 marathon pace.
Yea, I'm sure Adidas has absolutely no problem with one of their athletes accepting a bribe from Nike to throw a race.

Probably none of your business...

"Hardcore"? What does that mean in this setting?
I have corrected the subject line.
First congratulations to Shalane, she was amazing. But now is she going to retire from professional running? Because she was saying that before the race, she said I will retire if I win a major marathon. So would she retire next year?

Celebrate Shalanes great career!
Its over.
She's been a lovely class lass all the way.
Class? Have we been watching the same Shalane?
She has been overtly nasty and unsportsmanlike throughout her career, going back to her days at UNC; especially when it comes to her fellow US runners.
I'm always happy to see an American at the top of the podium, but I have never been a fan of her attitude.
I have noticed this also. Selfish pig Shalane is only happy when she gets all of the attention. Wonder why Kara Goucher left BTC!
Hasay would destroy her if they ever ran again. Shalane would never consider such a humiliation. She better retire now and take all her negative comments with her to a nice "good bye".

I don't think the word hardcore was actually used. It was something to the effect of who in the group could suffer through the most amount of pain, I think.
Wow, I thought this thread was about appreciation...Have been a fan of Shalane ever since Beijing '08 (btw, shouldn't her medal be upgraded to silver?!). IMO she is the best US runner, male or female, of our times. She has continued to amaze and to deliver throughout her career. I was a bit sad when she begun to be beaten on the track for example by Huddle.
Yesterday the sweetest moment of her whole career arrived. Amazing performance! And there were top-class runners in the race, what are some people talking about?! That determination and focus, her training must have been so good! Great job, Shalane!!
Shalane Flanagan Wow!!!!
Thats perfection!!!
Perfect race! She keeped her beautiful running form till the end
pushing a very solid pace in the last
kilometres. It s been a pleasure to watch her race and support her.
A win like this put an all new aura and dimension to her running career. Thank you Shalane for the emotions you gave us with your perfect race.
Not a fan. Shalane and her potty mouth is old news. Allie MF Kieffer had the performance of the day!

The irony of calling someone out for being a potty mouth and then putting MF in your next sentence.
Hahahahahahahaha
Both men and women were considerably slower than last year. Didn't look like a bad day. Why slower?

I have heard the same - she has always appeared a bit too smug for me. Happy to see an American win it (even with a slow time) From what I have heard she is a complete prima donna that has caused many problems with race directors.
Yet no one is offering examples of how she is allegedly a nasty person.

Wind.
She has gone on record showing complete distaste for non-white runners ruining the sport. Nasty isn't sufficiently descriptive of who she is.

Provide support.

Agreed! Fixed races ... wrote:
Worse than doping, is the inability to control for fixed races. No way Keitany turns down a side payment of $1million to bag the race and come in second... That is chump change to Nike who will benefit far more than $1 million, but makes a world of difference to Keitany.
This really looked liked the Black Sox today.
You kept your message consistent, as idiotic as it is.
But please elaborate. How does Nike give Mary Keitany $1 million? Was it in cash in New York?
The Black Sox Scandal happened because Comiskey was notoriously cheap in paying his star players and because it would be more than half a century before free agency would allow players to leave teams for larger contracts.
Keitany makes a lot of money. There was no fix in the race. Keitany didn't look comfortable at any stage yesterday. It just wasn't her day.
