Most accomplished less due to the fact they are at a disadvantage.
You really think those fast times were done naturally???

A pretty dumb move. You treat your body like George Costanza the hand model
NO!! That's why these guys do not and should not participate in junk sport exhibitions.
At least there are no world or Olympic champs in 2018. Probably not a cover for a positive drug test.

Crazy and sad. His advisers should be fired, there is zero reason to be doing this type of activity for a world record holder in his prime. Inexcusable ....

Ain't he coached by his Gradma? She's to blame, here.

Well, at least he broke the world record. Good career.
Even if he retired right now, he's a two time world champion, an Olympic champion, and the WR holder. All that in 3 seasons. Most accomplish much less throughout much longer careers.
I would have loved to see what he could do in the 200 and maybe pull off the double. His 200 improved greatly in 2017.

Track and field just took a huge hit, because it just lost its face of the sport, and no one in the wings to really take over at the moment.
I agree. It doesn't make sense to play tag rugby. I bet Rupp isn't playing pick-up soccer matches and he probably loves the game.
That sucks. Growing up in NYC, our high school XC coach would always yell at us if he saw us playing basketball in the school yard. Too many random injuries happened that way. Of course the guys would always ignore him, and we played American football at lunch too -- "stop motion" football (where you have to stop the other guy -- not just touch -- but not tackle) on asphalt.
Hoping for a fast recovery.
UGH. So sad.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO :'(

Suspension cover up?
That was my first thought...
If he plans to compete next season (and he certainly can if surgery is successful), he needs to continue to undergo random tests, so this would be a terrible way to cover up if he was doping.
I understand why some people feel for him. I feel bad but as a hobby jogger I avoid pick games of any sort for this exact reason especially soccer and basketball. If a hobby jogger can do it he should be able to do it. I don't know if this opens the door for some 400m runner but it might resurrect our 400m program

That's too bad. I'm getting back into soccer and while I'm pretty bad compared to others, it's pretty great. A great workout and way to make friends. I feel like if you're coordinated and if they don't allow slide tackles that it's a good way to get a workout.
Again Pointing out it was a paid promotional event, not a pickup game.
Apparently WVN is out for a while after sustaining a serious knee injury playing in a recreational rugby game.
"Apparently"...
Code words for the Coe cover-up of positive (+) tests ...
Now he'll comeback, never be the same WR speed again, and no one will "doubt" it because of the "injury"

What are the tackling rules for rugby? Though they don't wear pads or anything but thin leather helmets like early American football players, every time I watch, nobody ever gets leg tackled, runners generally either pass the ball or just plow forward until two guys gang up in front of them to slow and stop them.
I have seen no leg tackles, ever. That doesn't seem such a high risk for a knee injury. An experienced American RB would never be injured at rugby.

➡tackle rules for rugby have gotten utterly ridiculous. No tackles over shoulder height (which is good) but players are often bent over. You cannot pick up a player and dump them (spear tackle). You have to use your arms in the tackle and no swinging arm shots. Rugby Inc has seen what is going on in the NFL and they are terrified of a large lawsuit. Meanwhile Rugby League (played only in parts of Eastern Australia and Northern England) is way behind the 8 ball, dangerous concussions are still ignored. Russell Crowe etc might have to make big payouts later.
➡leg tackles are illegal.
➡rugby players often blow their ACLs because the player attacking with the ball will make a half break only to be partially held by one leg and then a big cover defender comes across and hits them from side on and their body gets twisted awkwardly.
➡WvN was playing touch.
➡the helmets used in rugby are useless, only stopping scratches and cauliflower ear.
➡If an NFL running back was tackled in a rugby game they would feel it.
