That is a decent time for a freshman assuming not a huge anomaly. There are a lot of factors that will determine if you get better or not.
1) Are you far along on the physical maturity scale?
2) Will you get injured?
3) Will you do the work to get better? This next summer, you need to build up serious mileage. 50+ for a sophomore, 60+ for a junior, 70+ for an elite senior.
Ok I want to run 50+ as a sophomore and no, I still have a lot of physical maturing and growing(I'd hope.) But if I run too much I could get injured. I am not exactly injury prone, but I am always stiff before runs.
Thanks!
Somethings to avoid injury:
1) Don't run too long in the same pair of shoes.
2) When building up mileage, step it down a little every 4th week (or even every 3rd if you are concerned).
3) Sleep, eat right, stay hydrated, stretch.
Good luck.
