He's from Calgary. But he does look a little like what we called a "Pepsi" when I was a kid in Ottawa.

I swear rojo, you are always in a hurry to say something, regardless of the facts on hand. Just slow down, gather facts, and think before you post...next time...and every time.
It amazes me that people don't get one of the main points of letsrun - it's to save people time. I have for years wanted to change the motto on the front page from "Where your dreams become reality" to "We surf the net so you don't have to."
If everyone wanted to google everything in the world, then there would be no need for the messageboard or forum. But it's easier to ask others - experts - than to try to become an expert on everything.
It's sad that because of smart phones alerts that people like you think it's wrong to actually converse (even electronically) with other human beings.

6 seconds in 100 is a lot. He'd have to go 96 seconds per mile slower for that segement. SO instead of running 520 pace (80), he'd have to run it in 86 (6:56 pace).

This.
Easily lost six seconds. Compare this with the winner's final 400. Which was amazing.
It's called being hungry. Canadian marathons should try it sometime.

What a terrible fundraiser. Who is this woman?
Your response has nothing to do with my advice to you, which was "Why didn't you look at the video FIRST before you spoke?" Instead of doing what every intelligent person would do you went off on some uninformed tangent.
If you are going to actually converse with other human beings it helps to be informed on the topic, especially when it only requires a minimum inconvenience on your part to do so.
Here's how the intellectual process works:
1) Someone starts a thread about a runner whose celebration at the end of a race cost him money. Link was provided to a video of the finish.
2) Respondent clicks on the link to become informed about what happened.
3) Respondent formulates an opinion, then types it and posts to the thread.

2) Ready
3) Shoot
4) Aim

The main point of Letsrun isn't to save time, it's to waste time.

LOL.
You see, THIS is the problem with the sport of professional running: we think that $1,250 is a lot of money. It's not!
It's not even in the stratosphere of money to care about. Most likely he didn't give sh1t as the money is chumps change.
If this was pro cycling, the prize money would be worth crying about. Pro running despite being similar in training and endurance to cycling, earns a pittance compared to that industry.

LOL.
FYI the actual winner of the toronto waterfront marathon ran in 2:06. The championships is just a category for "1st Canadian" in this race.

What a killjoy it is to realize the national champion is crowned after finishing 9th, 12 minutes behind the winner.
That was amazing.
That dude was so frackin stoked i'm guessing the money lost wouldn't bum him out one bit.
(Looks like the gofundme will cover it anyway.)
Win-win, as we all get to enjoy a sketchy-looking white dude super pumped to be first-place canuck in a road race.

A Trump voter.
If the was celebrating, as reported, for the last 100m I think he could have ducked under 2:18
I'd guess the video clip shows about 35>40 meters at 25 sec per100 pace due to celebrating .
He averaged about 19.7 per 100m for the whole race. Paying attention to the possibility of a sub 2:18 with a no fooling around sprint from 200m out and he's under 2:18.
He didn't lose that much time in the last 50m when he was celebrating.
2/10

Yesterday was the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon, which in Canada is considered to be the National Marathon Championships.
A runner named Trevor Hofbauer made his marathon debut to win these, championships in a time of 2:18:05. He took the last 100m to celebrate, high-five, and cheer, he would've finished sub 2:18:00 if he had decided to kick in. Due to celebrating he missed a large cut off in prize money by running slower than 2:18:00.

I was about to say the same things. You don't lose as much time as people think from celebrating. As long as you keep your legs moving, within a 100 meters, you are only going to lose a second or 2.
If you listen to his post race interview I’m not sure he’s even smart enough to deposit his cheque. Embarrassing.

Thank you everyone for the overwhelming show of support. In less than 18 hours we more than doubled the original goal.
What's wrong with it? Canada needs all the help they can get developing marathoners.
What a terrible fundraiser.
what a great and stupid thread.
if you win a marathon, you want to celebrate like that.
who cares about a grand. that is one welfare check.
of course the guy could have broken 218, he had gas left for 10 seconds, and was way ahead.
great win. enjoy the win. savor the win. live in the moment. rock on.
Is there a rule against attaching a helium balloon to yourself while running a road race?

How rare is it to run a sub 5 minute mile AND bench press 225?
