I am female and middle-aged. My husband is in his 50s as well, and runs, too. In our experience, both men and women get the a-holes in pickup trucks driving too close and yelling stupid stuff. Women, though, are WAY more likely to encounter behavior that makes you fear for your physical safety. I know people who have been jumped and mugged while
running. Many of my friends won’t run alone, run with pepper spray, drag their phones on ever run, and change routes to avoid risks. It’s not about the clothes, and it doesn’t happen only to cute young hot runners. It’s always there.
I know it can be popular on the boards to think of women as snowflakes eager to cry harassment at every turn. This is not my experience of the women’s running community.
