Has anyone besides me analyzed the results/splits? No way Rupp is better than third in it - maybe the. Here's why.
1. The times were fast.
1. Lawrence Cherono (K) : 2:05:09 (CR, PR)
2. Norbert Kigen (K): 2:05:09 (PR)
3. Abraham Kiptum (K): 2:05:26
4. Mule Wasihun (E) : 2:05:36
5. Laban Korir (K): 2:07:01
6. Stephen Chebogut (K): 2:07:30
7. Tesfayer Abera (E) : 2:07:39
8. Abdi Nageye (NED/Somalia) : 2:08:16
9. Joseph Aperumoi (K): 2:08:26
10. Rira Seboka (E) : 2:08:51
2. The close - off of a fast pace - was way better than Rupps. Remember, the first half was 62:51 and then they closed like this:
Cherono ran his last 12.2 k in 14:30-14:33-6:09
Rupp off of a 66 first half, ran his last 12.2 k in 15:22-14:25-6:12.
So Cherono ran 62:51-62:18
Rupp ran 66:11-63:09.
From 30k to the finsh, Cherono ran 35:12. Rupp ran 35:59.
So even the fourth placer closed 20 seconds faster than Rupp from 30k. Yes, Rupp started his close later but at best he'd be third? I mean the top 2 basically closed their last 7.2 k the same as Rupp in a race that was 4 minutes faster.
So if Galen Rupp had run Amsterdam, he would have been at best 3rd and maybe 5th?

What place was 2:10?

Those results only went 10-deep. To see where Rupp would have finished you would be going to the mid-packer results. -
Irrelevant, get off your soap box. If Rupp would have had to go faster to get the W he would have.
Why go all out when your competition is slower. He and his coach said plenty of times was strictly going for the W.
Even at his winning pace he still came around the turn separate from the pack.
Hate on runners hate on! -
Wow Rupp sux
Just kidding. You fanboys think all these B level Kenyans are SO amazing... why don’t any of them show up to the great American WMMs like Boston and ChiTown? It should be easy money for them right??
Haters back off 🤚🽠-

Thank you! Saved me a lot of typing -
Jordan Hasay would have been a CHAMPION!!!!!!!!!
-
Fourth place my best guess

The same arguments every time. Rupp has not run a fast time vs. Rupp can run faster if he needs to. Please, Galen Rupp, run in a fast marathon and end this Ground Hog Day-like argument.
-
Has anyone else noticed that when the men's race is good the women's race is weak and vice versa?
-
Where did those clowns finish in the Olympic marathon? The one where the best compete and only 3 best for each country. Not only behind Rupp, most didn't even qualify!!! Rupp beats them all. None of them could touch his 2644 10k PR either hahahaha
-
On the one hand, Rupp has lost to exactly two marathoners, Kipchoge and Lilesa, both with PRs faster than Cherono. On the other hand, Rupp has beaten Lilesa, Biwott (twice), Kimetto, Abera, Berhanu, all also with PRs faster than Cherono.
Things are not as simple as you simpletons would like to believe. -

Keep in mind that Rupp didn't start this argument. He's made no claims that he can run 2:03,4,5 etc. If he ran his whole career doing only the trials, boston, NYC, Chicago and other non-rabbit races, that is up to him. Contrary to popular belief, nobody on this board is relevant to Galen Rupp. Now, he will of course eventually run a time trial, but my point is that he doesn't have to solve your sh*tty debate if he doesn't want to. -
Yawn, Rupp can't help who shows up. Chicago is a premier event in the states it's not like he went to some mid size USA town and ran it.
No reason to hate, dude broke a streak and is an American who won against Kenyans I'm not going to annoint him as the next best thing but he won the Chicago marathon with a sizeable lead. Congrats to him. -
It should be pointed out that the weather in Chicago was sub-optimal for a fast time.

Chicago is a "great" race?
"WMM" is horse$hit, Chicago course, crowd and the field sucks. -

Any yet the top 10 all have faster PRs than him. In track and running time means everything. Sure, championships mean a lot but time is paramount. -

That's why Alan Webb is regarded the world over as the best miler of the past decade, yes? -

This smells of Penn State talk. All geeked up for January and April time trials. Nothing to show in March and June
