Just curious why it matters to letsrun posters whether or not an american citizen was born here or not.
I don't care either, for some reason. I didn't care any more that Rupp was the first 'American born' winner since whatever year. I've found myself rooting for Meb as hard as Rupp (and Hall back in his day).
It just seems like an insignificant statistic.

I’d rather root for Meb on any day, because he is way more personable and inspiring.

Yeah, and I for one am sick and tired of being pushed around by The Man.

obviously, no one cares about women's xc
Well said and I totally agree. Where you're born shouldn't be a determining factor. It's where you grew up, went to school, and spent most of your life. If you're LEGAL American citizen it doesn't matter where you're born.

I don't think Ben True ever won NCAAs.

If Fisher wins this year and when he wins next year I'm not going to think oh a Canadian won I'm going see it as an American who won, he may not be US born but I care more about an American winning than a Kenyan or Ethiopian, who's just going to college in the US
Agreed. Patrick Tiernan can also go to hell. Foreigners just going to college here are taking advantage of our talent development system.
Wow, really can't believe I just read that. I may be wrong, but I am pretty sure their are US citizens who were both born in the Us and NOT native american. There's only millions of them. I think what you are mistakenly referring too is whether or not an american citizen has american ancestry, which is completely different and unrelated.

The only "Americans" in that regard are native americans if you guys really want to be that technical. NCAA is for college athletes from anywhere not just americans. Fisher is canadian born but you could say that he is north american born
This. Watched that kid tear up the grass all around Mass a couple years ago. Northfield, Franklin Park, etc. Absolute dominance. Will always cheer him on.

With regards to the above.

Interesting. What will be you thought if LInkletter wins?
Andy Trouard ran a 3:38 1500 and a 13:36 5000 this past summer. I think he could be in the mix.

There is nothing wrong with rooting for foreigners.
If I move to Kenya am I an East African?
If I move back am I African American?
If Fisher is eligible to be the president of the US someday, quibbling over the fact that his parents were out of the country when he was born is idiotic.
Is Meb American?
