Yeah I always felt like the people who struggled to find water stop solutions for their long runs had to be terrible problem solvers.

"I'm running 20 miles but I absolutely cannot find a way to include a store, water fountain, loop, friends house, AND I am unwilling to carry anything despite my insistence on picking paths that apparently avoid all forms of civilization."

Tell me again how caffeine affects HR... several studies show no effect of caffeine on exercise HR (see refs). Also, when looking at Molly's data, there is already a visible steady increase in HR before the espresso stop.

What? Hasay and Huddle both have finished third in every single world marathon major they've ever run.

The only thing that surprises me about the run is she didn't have a husband or coach hand her the drinks, etc. How long was the break? The thing I hated most about long runs was trying to figure out a way to get water without stopping. It would take me half a night to drive around town and hide water bottles on my run and then I was always afraid some homeless guy was going to pee in them and put them back.

I put my bottle in a hedge at the 12 mile point, which was near the start of my run. Ran a 12 mile loop and then smaller loops. And I would stop to drink. It's ok to stop in training cuz it's not a race.

I always need a pee around 10 miles in to my long runs, thankfully there's usually a bottle or 2 in this hedge I go past, bit of squeeze getting my wanger into the top of the bottle but I usually manage it OK.

I used run with an OTQ and he always had us stop every 45-60 minutes during long runs for water or a restroom. Sometimes I would get annoyed because we would spend 3-4 minutes waiting for everyone but the fast guy never stressed and always ran well. So I figured it was normal.

Are you telling me people actually run 20-24 miles without stopping? You are afraid to stop at a water fountain for 45-60 seconds? Are the elites not stopping at all?

Or just enjoy the extra nitrogen for muscle recovery.

Very nice of her to provide the data (though I know it's with the obvious plug). Never liked drinking or eating anything during a long run - even 20+ miles in 90deg weather. Then again I was painfully slow.

I used to worry about stopping for water, but you realize within about 30 seconds of running again, you feel exactly as tired as you did when you stopped.

Stopping for 5 minutes to use the bathroom is one thing. Stopping for 30 seconds for water will have zero impact on your long run. Unless of course it's at MP or something else of quality, then you definitely shouldn't stop as it ruins the point of the workout.

Just bring some cash and buy some water/Gatorade or Powerade at the convince store during your run.
