Yes he ran 2:09 finishing the race at 4:30 pace, but he ran most of it well over 2:10 pace beating guys who ran 2:10 or slower. He has never beaten someone who was running better than 2:10. Unless he gets out of his 2:10 rut, Galen "2:10" Rupp will never win Berlin or the Olympics because those are not 2:10 races.
Galen Rupp is still basically a 2:10 guy

He's run 2:09:XX twice now, how is that 2:10?

It's basically 2:10, with a kick. It will allow you to win 2:10 races. -

Bekele's 26:17 was really a 27:00 race, just with a slight 10km-long kick. -
Bolt is basically a 10 second guy, i really never understood the hype
-
Better to be a Yuki-type: barely sub 14s for 100m = multi 2:08 marathons.

They don't want to hear the truth, man. So you're wasting your time. This is american where terrible films win oscars, and horrible food is sought after. This is also the place where americans take selfies of walking the marathon, instead of focusing on running the marathon.
This is the land of glitter, but no substance. All they care about is the finish
Substance is not high on the list, because it is hard to do..
Why do you think pacers were removed, because it made it hard for americans to win. They didn't stand a chance.
Rupp ran a race that was designed for him to win. Chicago is now a 2:10 course, and is now slower than new york and boston. -
When Galen Rupp runs 2:09:20, it's really only 2:10. When anyone else in the world runs 2:09:20, it's 2:09. Is that right?
-
Chicago continues to be the place for the average guy runner to go for a PR attempt even with the noticeably warmer weather at Chicago in recent years.

I didn't say LITERALLY 2:10 but it's BASICALLY 2:10. This is especially true when you run most of the race completely surrounded in a pack running a comfortable pace. He had more of a wind shield than Kipchoge's sub-2 project - and no one considers Kipchoge a 2:00 guy. -

Doesn't matter, either way you are wrong. Literally or basically, he is still a 2:09:XX guy because that is what he ran. Deal with it. -
If you guys are this disappointed in Rupp, then how are you not scolding Lilesa too? He beat Rupp in the Olympics and ran, what, 2:14 today?
And what about Kimetto's DMF?? Or Tadese running a 2:12? Rupp actually ran good if some of these other guys ran that slow. -
He ran Bett into the ground too
-
If Rupp had come in second in Berlin in 2:04, the Rupp haters would say:
"Rupp is just the first loser in a ridiculously draftathon and that he doesn't deserve any respect until he proves himself in an unrabbitted race." -

I know this insult gets thrown around a lot here, but I truly believe that this is in the running to be the dumbest thing ever said on this forum. -
Anyone who actually follows the sport knows that Rupp is a master tactician. He ran 2:09 because that's what it took to win, he did what he needed to do to edge by, if the race went out at 1:03 the first half, he would of did that and could of run 3-4mins faster easily, he didn't want to race like an idiot, he tucked in, enjoyed the draft and easily won with plenty in the tank. Stop hating, he's only demonstrated 2:09 because that's all that it has taken, he is easily much faster.

Looks like he ran the second half in 63:09. -
Yes, more famous than you and probably richer than you. So what?
-
And we're supposed to be impressed by a 2:09:XX guy? When the women's winner runs 2:18:XX? C'mon man!
-
I do have to wonder: in the 1980's, the US had 25 guys under 2:11, with several under that multiple times. What was true then that isn't now?
