Starting temps are predicted to be 60-62 and could potentially reach 70 degrees. No one is running fast Sunday morning.

If Chicago goes well, and by that I mean a win, I can see Rupp running London next year.
I saw jordan hasay on the nike campus and ran with her and asked he if theyd ever put rupp in a fast race like london or berlin and she said "i think they are waiting until he gets his pr down"

Which makes good marketing sense.
If Galen were to go to London or Berlin with his own rabbits to bring him through the half or 30K at 2:05:30 pace, then I think he could hold on and break KK's American record of 2:05:38. However, since he will probably make more money running Boston/Chicago/NYC every year, we may never get to see him chase a fast time.
Symmonds is better and Trump will win the NBA 3pt competition. Diego Estrada will run faster than rupp in chitown.
yeah and meb ran that at BOSTON....what was ruppy poops time there? oh yeah not that fast...
but but but it was hot and tactical
always some lame a$$ excuses....you know what mebs excuse was? oh yeah nothing cause he ran a 2:08 at boston...and WON
Define "2:05 guy".

Weather makes a huge difference in winning times at Boston. 2017 was one of the hottest races in recent years.
Rupp has not run London or Berlin - yet.
I'd figure a guy who has looked for great competiion and run fast times in his career will want to do the same in the marathon.
It is true that Galen has been selective in when and where he races at points. However, look at his 2014 season, the year he set the 10K AR. He went head-to-head against the best 5000 men in the world repeatedly. He emerged from the season with a world #4 ranking.
Those who accuse him of dodging races and predict DNFs all the time are fairly ridiculous.
Sometime in the next year, it's very likely Rupp will look for a crack at a fast marathon.
I would imagine that Rupp is capable of breaking the American record. He has been groomed for the long term development and given Salazar's history with the marathon I'd be inclined to think this was always the plan. Whether he foresaw people running sub 2:03 or not is a different story but I would bet that they continued to transition towards this because he believes Rupp can run with the best in the world at this distance or he would stay on the track a bit longer.
Now will he do it in Chicago? Probably unlikely if the temp is as bad as people are predicting and with no rabbits to force the issue. I would expect Rupp wants to do what he needs to in order for him to be in contention to win and a sub 2:10 time should be a by product of that.
I would almost like to see him going somewhere lower key like Frankfurt or Rotterdamn (lower key in comparison to Berlin and London at least) and have more of a time trial situation with pacers for what he wants to run and not be in a WR attempt where he is on his own.

I think if Salazar sent Rupp to London with pacers hired specifically for Rupp, he could possibly walk away with both the win and an AR. Look at how London went this year, everyone goes out in like 61:40 (first 5K of 14:11 lol) and blows up with the winners struggling to break 2:06. Imagine if Rupp had been there and sat behind his own pacers, going through halfway at 62:45, and then gliding by the leaders at the end.
I like the idea of calling yourself what you think you're theoretically capable of, and not what you've actually run. I will adjust all my PRs accordingly.
The technical term is: your "Paul Ryan time"
(remember a simpler time when THIS was a scandal?
)
From the BalancedRunner biomechanic analysis, Rupp is too stiff as a runner. He's gonna run faster than his old teammate dathan ritzenhein, maybe high 2:05, but I don't think he gets to 2:04.
Holy crap you're dense - no one is claiming that Galen is presently a 12:58, 26:44 guy - and how can he be when he has now completely aligned his training to the Marathon. People are simply stating that in his track days he was, which means this is a clear illustration of his capability as an athlete transitioning to the Marathon. It clearly shows/supports that he has the potential to be a 2:05 guy, quite legitimately regardless of him now being 31 and past his track career.
Try to read and interpret as things are written - we learn that in Junior high.
Someone asked for a definition:
I define a "2:05 guy" as someone who has finished a marathon in 2:05:00 - 2:05:59.
My PR is 2:47:24, and so am comfortable telling people that I ran "2:47" if they ask (we don't mention the seconds, because no one really cares at my level).
Are there pacers in Chicago this year? If so, he might be close. If not (and I really hope not), I don't think he will run 2:05 (just a gut feeling).

Well, Jordan has already book her tickets!
He is obviously capable of 205. Who can run three marathons in the heat at 210 and not be? Unfortunately gonna be hot again.
