Update: I found out last week I must go to a company holiday party on Friday, 12/15 night, so I won’t be able to make it to Jacksonville Saturday morning. However, I’ll be switching to the Naples half on 01/14 instead. This gives me 4 extra weeks of training, so it works out.
@Smoove that seems like a goof fast half. What are you shooing for, sub 1:10?
11/13-11/19
M: 2-mile warm-up, 2x800 w/0:45 rest, 1xmile w/1:30 rest, 1x2 mile w/2:15 rest, 1xmile w/1:30, 2x800 w/0:45 rest. 2-mile cool down. Splits: 2:36, 2:33, 5:27, 11:01 (5:27, 5:31), 5:18, 2:33, 3:31. I couldn’t lock onto a faster pace for the first mile interval, but came back the 2nd time. It was a decent effort with short rest. Total: 10 miles
T: 11 miles @ 7:18 pace
W: 10 miles @ 7:06 pace
Th: 1.5-mile warm-up, 4x400 w/1:15 rest b/w 400s, 4-mile tempo, 4x400 w/1:15 rest. 2:30 rest b/w 400s and tempo. Splits: 1:14, 1:13, 1:14, 1:14, 22:16 (5:34 pace – 5:32, 5:36, 5:33, 5:34), 1:17, 1:13, 1:14, 1:14. 1.5-mile cool down. Total: 9 miles
F: 8 miles: @ 7:19 pace
Sa: 8 miles @ 7:06 pace
Su: AM - 10K race. 1.5-mile warm-up, 32:20 (5:12 pace – watch splits were 5:08, 5:10, 5:15, 5:16, 5:10, 5:00, 1:14), 3-mile cool down. It was ideal conditions for SoFL. Bunch of fast guys, master world record, and flat course. I wasn’t sure on how to pace myself, considering this was my first real 10K, but I ran as easy as I could for the 1st half. I had lots of gas in the tank the last 1 mile, so had I been more aggressive in the middle of the race, I probably could’ve gotten closer to 32:00 or sub. I didn’t feel strained throughout the race, which is encouraging. Overall, I’m happy with the result.
PM: 4.5-miles @ 7:18 pace
Weekly Total: 71 miles
Since I’m racing later than planned, I’m bumping up my mileage to mid-70s for 4 weeks with a long run of 16 and then come back down. I’ll continue to focus on longer intervals and the long run.
