Headed to Door Co. this weekend. If the FIBs haven't taken all the cherry juice, I'll bring some back and leave it at McClimon.

Wisco Women score 101 points for second place.
Wisco Men score 193 points for eighth place.
When was the last time this happened??
Happens all the time. The ladies want the Kola points for qualifying and the men hope to get in by running one good race. This strategy backfired two years ago.

I imagine they will redshirt quite a few guys this year and load up for next year. Remember, Wisco hosts nationals next year. It's been a long time a team with a real shot of doing something big has hosted nationals (sorry Louisville and Indiana State) I'm pretty sure they're taking the down year this year with hopes for big things next year. Could walk away with the individual winner and podium spot at home, maybe even win the whole thing. Would be rowdy.
Regardless, the L'Ville results are troubling for them. But this wouldn't be the first year they've made the trip down there without the goal of really racing competitively.
I still can't imagine that they will win Big Tens this year. This is very sad.
When the Big Tens streak ended at Purdue back in '13 it was about IU and Michigan rising up and taking it from them. That was going to happen eventually anyway. '15 all the wheels just completely fell off. If they don't rally and take it this year we'd be talking about them winning it just twice in 5 years. Totally unfathomable 5 years ago...
Just wow. The plan was to redshirt Hardy coming into the season according to Mick. If he doesn't race today they barely finish in front of the last place team.

25th today behind 4 big ten schools (though surprisingly enough, still ahead of Illinois and Indiana). I guess they're committed to redshirting McDonald at this point, though one now has to wonder if the rest of the team will be good enough next year for it to really matter.
What a sad race. No Big 10 title this year. No trip to nationals. It's a coaching problem. You need more two weeks to correct this problem.
Mick said the following:
We've got two weeks to fix it before the Big Ten championships and we're still going to go to regionals and still going to run at regionals. We can sit back and wallow in self-pity but we're not going to do that. It's not the Badger way. We've got to come back out and fight."
You need more than two weeks to correct this problem.
Just terrible. McDonald, Hacker, Hirsch too? out for the season. This year's overall performance may end up being the worst of all time for the Badgers?
Running tough will not correct the problem either

Too late to redshirt Hirsch. He competed Louisville.

They are clearly done this year. Mick can say stupid things at press conferences, but this season is over. The more troubling thing is that I don’t really think next year’s team, even with Morgan, Olin, Seth, Finn, et al... will really contend for a title at home. Maybe 4th or 5th next year?
Couldn't agree more. Mick has taken the mantle from Stanford as the coach who does the least with the most talent. Was at the race yesterday. Other than Joe Hardy's race this was another disaster.

I'm being critical because this freshman class of US kids is the best in years and a couple true freshman - Cooper Teare and Casey Clingler ran a minute faster this weekend....Byrne can't just shame the guys in to the media and yell at them. I don't give him a pass because McDonald is a superstar. His record of developing talent at Wisco is not what it needs to be. I'm not going to name names that haven't developed out of respect to the kids.
Reed Brown and Sam Worley are two more true first year runners who were right with Teare today.
With the lineup you mentioned, I'd say they'll be lucky to be top 10. Morgan and Olin are the only two that have proven themselves.
Just a reminder that Joe Hardy threatened his girlfriend with a knife and is (obviously) still on this team.
That's all.
I think next year they can be a podium team and McDonald could win the individual title.
Tanking/redshirting every other year looks bad if it keeps up, but I imagine this won't last long and they will right the ship soon. Two years ago was a string of bad luck with injuries (I know coaches hold responsibility for injuries, but I remember hearing something about a bike crash and some illnesses?)
But let's not forget, they were very solid last year, winning Big Tens and placing 8th at nationals. My guess is they will come back strong next year and things will level out. If they keep tanking every other year then yes, things need to change, but I have a feeling they will be headed back up soon.
Also, the women's team has been running well.
