This article gives sidelight to why Adola seemed naive and bemused throughout the race.

THIS.
Yes, this completely rocks. Great story, great run, great guy.
And the ten mile championships this weekend. Chicago is going to be a blast, too. Something just seems off, though, the more I think about it. I can't put my finger on it. But Adola rules.

Anyone else buy into the ignorance is bliss theory of marathoning?
I do buy into this theory for distance runners, to some limited extent, and felt it was a tactic that worked well for me at times
I also buy into the 'ignorance is bliss' theory as it applies to sports fans/reporters watching 'unreal' distance performances by high level Ethiopians with pharmacies right down the street from their 'high performance factory' training group and 'legendary' coach/handlers
I can run 61:30 opening halves on a rainy street and chew gum at the same time

Also - did the peanut drink immediately after reading. Switched out hot water for coffee. Good.
I couldn't find any info about the laos drink. You just add peanut butter to black coffee?
Best part of the whole story is the face that he got his start from Coach JS.
“I ran at school a bit,†he said, “but our coach at the time didn’t know much about running, he just coached us with guesswork. But then I decided to try to make running my job, so I started looking at the Facebook posts of a coach from our region, and I used Google to find training sessions. I’ve always done a mixture of what my coaches tell me and what I learn myself.â€

Magic Autumn ;)
Sounds just like butter coffee.
A great read. Awesome that with these last two documentaries and insightful writeups like this, these anonymous East Africans seem less so.
What's the LRC verdict on this guy being a doper or not?
We have an update. Adola's coach says Adola knew he was running the marathon 4 days ago but Adola didn't tell anyone until the Wednesday of the race.
Awesome.
lol wut?

So he's already a liar?
BUSTED!
Come on guys, get a grip!
Adola was on the start list in July
no matter how good the story, and it is, when the headline is that he only learned four days before the race that he was running, this comes under The Donald's favourite bleat - FAKE NEWS!

So...you’re saying this guy is just another Rossi?!?
What a shame.

Thanks for the correction. It seemed very unlikely that he would train to be in shape to run 2:03 and have no idea that he planned to run a marathon.
It's like saying you go to work everyday but have no idea what products your company plans to sell.

Is it even a question?
He clearly is doping, the whole point of this thread is to say 'We don't care if he's cheating, he's ever so interesting so it doesn't matter'.
Edgar?
