Their past is irrelevant to me. We work for the future.

This is what I mean, you are now so broken down by your job that you're no longer fit for purpose and perhaps now need help and support yourself.
I know you have probably made a bit of a difference and helped a few people but seriously you are clearly not helping that much anymore if you keep seeing the same problems over and over again on your watch.
Get out while you still have a chance and let someone with fresh ideas and energy take over. It's what these people deserve and need.

It is not often that I read something and agree more than a 100% with what was said. You hit the nail on the head my friend. I had a similar job and Cold Stone when I was in college they made us sing a stupid song I lasted one week on that job before I said I can't do this anymore it is humiliating. This country's economic structure is failing badly. The corporate executives won't tell you this but they make them dress up like donuts so they can have a laugh and feel as though they are empowering them it is a way of control. They wouldn't do it themselves because they are not at the level and also it would interrupt their important game of golf which is where they discuss how to screw over the bottom half of society and prevent them from ever joining their special club built on our hard work. This country is constantly laying people off and making them start over again and we wonder why other countries want nothing to do with us in the economic world. Do you ever lay awake and think about these things? I do they keep me up at night I wonder how I get paid $67,000 a year and am taxed and deducted to $20,000 expected to survive when the cost of living is heavily rising and then at the end of the taxable year I am hit from all angles and then owe $3,500 to uncle Sam it doesn't make sense. I saw the most disrespectful poster at a fast food restaurant it was a poster of a military member in uniform then switched into the uniform of the fast food restaurant and the caption read "From One Uniform To Another, WE ARE HEAR TO SERVE" I understand they are simply trying to say we support our vets but it also spits in their face as well saying this is what society thinks you are worth. I have a tough time understanding why corporations pay so little to people. Life is depressing enough this is a huge reason why grave yards are filling up and suicide is at an all-time high people are fed up to the point of simply wanting out. The best advice I can give you every time you see a "Lamborghini, Rolls Royce, Bentley, or any luxury vehicle that cost as much as a custom home understand that some poor prick is dancing around in a donut costume and that jerk gets to do whatever he wants so "Flip him off". Also when you get a job and they have some stupid ritual tell them "No I will Not Participate It is Against My Self Dignity"!!!

I think you have some sampling bias going on, here. Of course the people you see during your workday have lots of issues. You're a social worker. You have no reason to encounter people whose financial problems aren't rooted in serious personal issues. Doesn't mean such prople don't exist.
This is sort of like claiming that if a person has a chronic illness, they must be overweight, then being like "if you don't believe me, come to work with me at the type 2 diabetes clinic and you'll see that almost all sick people are fat."

Thanks a lot, my main point is nobody should be treated like this regardless of circumstances especially when they are working for a living and serving people - yes it may just be coffee etc. but it's still a service that most of us happily enjoy so they deserve respect and dignity.
Not to fear, Trump is going to make America great again. Granted, it seems to be a few weeks behind schedule. Thankfully, the tax cuts promised today will give him a few more pennies to spend from his minimum wage job.
All work, if honest labor, gives a person dignity, as long as it also provides a decent wage. Hey $50 an hour comes out to $100,000 if you work 8 hours a day for 52 weeks. Sign me up, sugar buns!!!
