Kapernick is a true hero; at great personal sacrifice to his career and at the risk of violent retaliation from gun-clenching racists and a banana republic, he decided to take a 'stand' by kneeling. He is on the right side of history, but rarely does being on the right side of history bring praise in the here and now. Well, that ends now: he has my praise. Well done, good sir, and keep fighting the good fight.
Please tell me how Kaepernick is helping in any way to solve the problem of police brutality amongst black Americans? By giving children black t-shirts in bold white writing saying "I know my rights." That will only further push the line between police and black young men, encouraging children to distrust officers. By his girlfriend refer to NFL owners as slave owners? By having half the country decide they hate the NFL now by insisting on kneeling? Sports center ratings have been in decline for ages and their most popular Instagram is one of Alejandro Villanueva staring for the pledge. What does that say about their viewership?
The only thing Kaepernick has done is create an even greater divide between races. That is the sad truth. If any of these NFL stars really cared they would be reaching out to the police force, putting their money into programs for children, and ignoring stupid questions from reporters and insisting on politely discussing the issue.
