These protests are going to lead to something more disrespectful. Next thing you know these athletes will be disrespecting POWs or something really overt like that.

Hey Letsrun we could either come up with ways to defend police brutality & blame people who have been killed by police OR we could train police officers not to act on their biases, save some lives.
Even if you're not a snowflake or whatever, this Daily Show segment is pretty okay. Police Officers in here very open to talking about the role bias has in interactions and they are very committed to working on taking those biases away.

Maybe that lunatic in Korea will help unite us again.
I think you captured the idea that there is always progress to be made.

Yeh, as long as you are a white, Christian, straight male, you may see it that way.
Hoping for a war with North Korea to unite people is incredibly cynical.

First, you can't debate the factual points that have been presented to refute the BS posted. Second, you now speak for everybody. Sounds like you've tapped out.
I do take this stuff very seriously. It's scattered across our everyday lives, and like you, I'm participating in the subject. I find it incredibly bizarre that millions and millions of people are so incredibly skewed in their perceptions of reality. Even more worrisome, is the recognizance of how pervasive propaganda is in our society. Yes, this is serious stuff. I'll go about my day, just as you should. But, when you enter into anonymous debate, expect to be handed information that might counter your preconceived notions of the world. And when you find that you cannot refute that information, perhaps you should park your cognitive dissonance, and take a deeper look.
At the end of today, black men are still the biggest threat to another black man, and that fact will not be addressed, and the cycle of blame will continue.
Maybe I should start watching the NFL so that I can boycott the b*stards. Nahh not worth my time. I'll just stick with my current 20+ year boycott of that league.
In typical LRC fashion, the OP is a troll and the "discussion" about kneeling at a sporting event to make a statement devolved into questions of African engineering and caucasian athletic prowess.

It's time for Trump and his Trumptards to stop being sensitive offended snowflakes. I'm tired of all this political correctness.
You are 100% correct. But us Deplorables DO have the right to be offended (just like every other grievance group in this country. It just might cost the NFL, the players, the owners and possibly their sponsors dearly. Only time will tell. I, for one, can't wait to see how it all resolves. I think this thing is a potential disaster for the NFL.

Speaking of preconceived notions. How do you know when a Trumpcuck is doing X? When he claims his opposing team is doing X.
Such a goof.

Isn't it sad that these self-righteous kneelers never bothered to draw attention to the evils of wife beating, dog fighting, gun waving, and all the other criminal activity they and their teammates engage in on a regular basis.
May the NFL continue to bleed money.
I feel that we do, in fact, need to "act in certain ways" when confronted by law enforcement, for the same reasons we pay taxes against our will (ostensibly), observe zoning restrictions, observe traffic laws etc etc etc.

I wonder how the thousands of black cops feel about this. Perhaps the coddled millionaire NFL players, if they really want to make a statement, should put their money where their big mouths are at. Go into the inner cities, Chicago perhaps, or wherever their home teams reside, and see if they can help the local police stop the rampant gang violence that takes thousands of lives every year. Will they? No. Wouldn't want to jeopardize that all important paycheck.
Alejandro Villanueva has guts. It bucked all the peer pressure and he was the only Steeler to come out of the locker room to show his love and respect for this country.
He served in Afghanistan and he knows what respect and love of country means.
Sad when it takes guts to show love and respect for country because no one else is doing that.
I will assume you are a troll because you pretend to think people are honoring a piece of material woven into a flag.
The national anthem is showing your love and respect for your country. Its not saying your country has no faults or does nothing wrong. People honoring this country know there are many things the government might do that they think are wrong, but they still love and honor this country.
Do you get it now?
Now if you really are disgusted with and hate this country and feel you can't show it honor and respect, then by all means sit down. But do it on your own time, not when you are being paid indirectly by all the fans who still love the country.
If the ratings keep falling, so will revenue and so will salaries. Some of this nonsense will be stopped by market forces.
G of I: The rating will fall because eventually the quality of play on field will diminish. Pop Warner participation is declining. We hear about some NFL players who started playing football in high school. The vast majority of NFL players began playing football before age 10.

Yeah, it's not as if the NFL has rights agreements lock in for years to come...

I have a friend that is concerned about his son playing junior high football. Concerns center on CTE. I see what you are saying. My comment focus is that when you have 20% or more of your audience that is disgusted with the protests it matters. I would assume the financial impact may change how this issue is addressed, by individual owners and the League.
I'm sure that someone, somewhere, has stated that police are evil. There are a lot of people in this world, and a lot of opinions.
But I don't see that as a sustained narrative by most organized groups on the left (even including Black Lives Matter). Their claim is that there is a problem of systemic racism that causes black people to be disproportionately targeted by police. The evidence? African-Americans are approximately 13% of the U.S. population.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Race_and_ethnicity_in_the_United_States
What percentage of police shootings do black people account for? 23%.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/national/police-shootings-2017/
Meanwhile, whites are about 73% of the population and account for 45% of the police shootings.
Seems like there's a disparity there. Hence, calls for improvements by police forces. Most police organizations (most specifically the unions) seem to respond with a "circle the wagons" mentality and insist there is nothing wrong. I think that's the larger issue here: police unions not willing to admit there might be a problem.
https://www.nytimes.com/2017/08/22/nyregion/nypd-union-video-discrimination.html
It didn't help their cause that people have now seen some of the videos and a decent number of them seem to show unwarranted use of force.

I agree we should have an honest discussion about issues. I don't think the cops are ready to do that right now. As such, there will be protests.
