You're right. We need to have affirmative action in sports, as merit based systems are inherently racist. We need to mandate that the racial breakdown of the NFL and other professional sporting leagues matches the racial breakdown of America regardless of merit / talent, just as we have been doing in college admissions and government hiring for the past 56 years.
As an aside, how much of inequality is based in racism and how much is based in behavior / values? Unless African americans do something about the 75% illegitimacy rate (which even professional athletes are terrible about), there will continue to be inequality, and that reform must come from within the community itself. White America is no longer the culture of power in this country. That distinction belongs to Asian Americans who not in coincidentally also have the lowest illegitimacy rate and the highest rate of college graduates among the major ethnic groups. An Asian American from a household that earns less than $20k per year scores on average higher on the SAT in math than an African American from a household earning more than $100k per year (is a math test racist too?), because their community values education.
