I try to respect all post even when I disagree, but this one I don't respect because it's stupid. First off, the blue line is not the shortest distance, it' the measured distance. There are a lot of great marathoners who never ran the center line because they where attempting to shorten the distance. Bill Rogers is a good example of someone who always ran on the side of the road. Basic geometry, if the course has right turns, run to the right side of the road and if it has left turns, run on the left side of the road. Also, running a few feet to the left or right of center only makes a difference of few strides. Perhaps if there was a foot race to the finish line, running a bad tangents might make a difference. With that said, no one on the planet is going to beat Kipchoge is a footrace to the finish line especially when he was obviously conserving himself in case Adola came back on him.
