As a statistical average millennials in the workplace are working more hours and taking less of their vacation time (to the point where they don't even use what was given to them) than the previous generation. They are far more likely to have a side-gig than previous generations as well.
So it sounds like a problem with the people you associate with more than anything.
This is very true. The purchasing power of millennials is lower than that of the boomers when they first entered the job market, because middle-class wages have been stagnant for so long. A couple things that enable me to take a vacation to Europe for a week if I want to is by:
1. Using the internet to find incredible deals on flights & using Airbnb to stay wherever for pretty cheap. I just went to Paris for a week last month - $415 round trip tickets & $75/night Airbnb. Cheap.
2. Not over leveraging myself because I feel some unreasonable urge to buy a gigantic house and financially handcuff myself for the next 30 years or spend a shit load on my credit card because I'm in a dick-measuring contest with my neighbors for who can portray a higher socioeconomic status. I live with 2 roommates and pay $700/month to live in one of the USA's larger urban centers. I have two credit cards - one with no balance, and I use the other one for everything and pay it off every month because it gets me skymiles. I don't have a car - I take public transit everywhere I go. Basically, I try to be responsible with my finances.
