If Kipsang breaks the WR in Berlin, he is the best marathoner of all time

Bekele cannot be in this conversation. He is too inconsistent over the marathon.

Kipchoge, Kipsang, and Gebrselassie are master class.

Kimetto had a run (don't forget he has the CR's at Berlin and Chicago, that's an amazing record, as well as the only sub-2:03 on the official record books). And we cannot forget Geoffrey Mutai. His 2:05 in NYC still blows everyone's minds.

But that was Kipchoge's 2nd Race and He won His first race by running 2:05:00 then He run 2:04:00 for 2nd in Berlin, after that He never lost a race. He won London 2015 and 2016 by upsetting Kipsang, Kimetto and Kenenisa and by running 2;03:07 which is amazing considering he broke the course record in London by over 1 minute. Then He went to Berlin and won by like 45 second with his outlet of his shoes flopping. Then He won the Olympic by destroying everyone in the last 6 mile. Then the guy run 2:00:25 for a full marathon with a pacers. I think Kipchoge is the marathon Goat, and he will win this weekend's race in Berlin. Good luck to three of them.

I love Kipsang, he's my favorite runner to watch. But over the last 2 years he has been unable to hang with the other two in the last 1K. I don't believe he can possibly beat Kipchoge right now if both runners are at their best.

Kipchoge can answer any move Kipsang tries to make anywhere on the course, and then has more finishing strength. There is no scenario by which Kipsang can outduel Kipchoge unless Kipchoge has an off day.

That race where Kipsang dropped Desisa was a much slower race and a tougher course, and there was nobody in the field that could hang with Kipsang that day. Desisa gave it his best effort, but I've never seen anyone arrive at the 26 mile mark looking fresher than Kipsang did that day. He was toying with the field.

But it's a different story when the race is under 2:04.

Bekele's closing 1K at Berlin 2016 was impressive and legit. The question is can he even get in position to do that again. If he's there at the end it will certainly be interesting. I think this race will be cool from the standpoint that there will be drama well before 20 miles, as we simply watch to see if all 3, and maybe even others, will stay in the mix or if someone will drop early.

If all 3 are able to hang to the end, it is ON!

I agree that Kipsang would be the GOAT if he wins this race in 2:03:XX or better. But I think Kipchoge will cement his status with the win.

Dude what are you on? The other poster just pointed out that he did not win the 2012 Olympics or the 2013 London Marathon. Those results can be easily verified by a 5 second Google search.

And yes, the Olympic Marathon is part of the World Marathon Majors.

This race is going to be amazing. I think it's Kipchoge's race to lose. KB seems to have figured out the marathon but I still feel like he's going to run 2:02-2:03 or DNF. I agree with all of the Kipsang sentiments on here. this will be one of the most anticipated marathons of all time, it will generate more traffic on this site than any other race up to this point, and if all 3 are together with 3 miles to go and on pace i have 100% on KB....if he loses contact before halfway he will drop out, if he loses contact before 3 miles to go it will go to kipchoge.

if all goes well i see a 2:02 low from KB, if KB drops out then i see kipchoge in a new WR of 2:02:30 ish

An interesting thread, but this scorpio guy with his crush on Kipsang ("undefeated in all the races he won") is really detracting from the quality...

agree with you on this, KB will either run a huge WR of 2:02 low or DNF. which is pretty bada$$ in a way. i dont think he wants a 2:03:16 win, or 2:02:58 2nd place. he wants a win, and he wants it WR and he wants to destroy the record. i really hope he can do it. one of my fav runners of all time, smooth, humble, and always went after races to KILL the clock if he was in shape. Mo was a boring sit and kick affair, never had the balls to attack the clock, and his "personality" was fake and annoying. rupp is just boring all around, he is neither humble or arrogant, he is just lame lukewarm boring slightly autistic rich kid, how can you get on board with that?

kipchoge seems like good enough and kipsang, but never really got the media attention KB got so there isnt much to go off of except they are fast, so again kinda boring. KB crushed the world, got injured and has been written off so many times, has been dethroned as the distance GOAT by all the Mo loving noobs, comes back and barely misses the WR in the marathon.

kipchoge and kipsang never have anywhere close to the negative sh*t spewed on them as KB has had on this site.

Nope. He lost 13 races including 2 marathons within that period of time.

I'm not sure why one would think Kenenisa would drop out if he could not win. It is very likely he wants to win, and in a WR. But he has never dropped out of a marathon because he was losing it.

Damn, I didn't even consider the weather. I guess I'm just used to the weather being perfect at the Berlin Marathon. Hope it cools off a little.

well 15C/64 as the high, and from a few weather sites its either 30% or 70% afternoon rains, so early morning it might be low 50s? and overcast, so that might actually help out
