Symmonds in Ohio

When people post "thanks for posting", making it appear the person posting and the subject of the post are one and the same, it probably prevents lots of potential posters from ever posting positively about someone. My take is that 99% of pro runners don't go anywhere near this place and the posters, like the one above, are a real minority. Maybe one or two frustrated junior high boys.

Very few current hs runners know who Nick Symmonds is. Most HS runners have no sense of history, and it has been a few years since he has been athletically relevant.

To HS runners, he is ancient history. Freshmen and sophomores definitely don't know who he is. A senior would have been in the summer between 7th and 8th grade when he one his silver medal at worlds.

My man, he won the US title in 2015. That's only 2 years ago, in case you've forgotten, and well within the timeframe when current HSers could have watched and heard about him.

Yes. He's still well known. Even if it's only for his run gum. He's also one of our best American half-milers EVER. Not just some one-hit wonder. High school runners know who Nick is.

I coach a team that was there and as soon as it was announced I sent out a text to parents and athletes to let them know they could meet him and have items signed while at the meet. If they didn't know him before, they all know who he is now!

...but I think you made his/her point. You had to tell your team who he was. .And....in the original post....the dad was proud that his daughter was one of the few who knew him. 30+ is un-relatable to them.. A college team XC team---they all should know. They were in HS during some of his good years.Do they know who Bob Kennedy is...the man who reigned over US distance running for a decade?
