Chiropractors are excellent for treating many spinal issues. And your spine affects your walking, your running, your sitting, your sleeping - just about every physical activity. No, they don't cure cancer or treat eating disorders. Any chiropractor who says they do, run away. But for what they can do, they are far better than a doctor who might want to operate or give you pain killers. I went to medical specialists for two specific running injuries. I went to a podiatrist who sold me extremely expensive orthotics that were made for me from taking molds of my feet, etc. This was for iliotibial band issues. The first day I wore the orthotics on a run, I broke my ankle. Second, I had a tear in my hip labrum. While he was in there, the surgeon took it upon himself to "treat me" for hip joint impingement - burring the joint to lessen the hip angle, even though I told him NOT to do it. I have not been able to run since the surgery, 5 years ago, and have multiple other issues in my spine because one leg is now basically shorter than the other. Try the most conservative treatment first, for any injury. And research the hell out of your problem online. There are good and bad doctors, good and bad chiropractors and it is up to you to make a good decision.
