People really should be having green "egg carton" burials and a big BYOB and potluck party after.
Total cost, pretty much free.
There is no reason to spend money on weddings or funerals.

I'm not opposed to donating to such things but I do feel that people should state unequivocally that he had no life insurance. Also the implication is that his family is less than wealthy (which again is no knock, neither am I).
If he had insurance, then really, why donate? And everyone should have a basic 100k+ term policy from somewhere, they are dirt cheap at that age. Also, an accidental death rider or separate policy can pay a *lot* for next to nothing. If you don't have these things: GET THEM NOW.
I'd still happily donate and have donated to such causes when insurance was not purchased. *I don't think you ignore someone in need, you just help.*

Plus she only donated $150. Way less than a lot of runners who aren't sponsored by a major shoe co.
You people are pigs.
What sort of person castigates someone for how they handle the death of a friend, supporting that friend's family in mourning?
Particularly the coward "Still tho," acting this way in the context of a death. You must have such a sad, small and miserable life.
Disgusting.

Raises an interesting debate. Should GoFundMe be the norm for funerals?

He's not in need anymore. Others are.
You would think his adopted country could chip in for an Olympian?
But, hey Hoka, step up.

He doesn't have a mother, father, aunts, uncles, cousins? Was he an orphan?

What? Glorifying death? Why don't this monies go to the sick and needy.
Grandstanding Montano is sad. This whole premise of social media gratification and acknowledgement .
Funny that the link has been shared more times on facebook than people that have donated - 262 shares vs 143 donations.
