WI would likely give this title to Stevens Point because of their many state titles and then be padded by their streak of state qualifying teams. This is where Chris Solinsky and Suzy Favor are from.
The catch to their many state qualifying teams is their easy and rather geographically isolated path to state. They are the biggest school in north central WI and minus a one hit wonder future school legacy team here or there (Wausau East, Wausau West or D.C. Everest) no teams are usually close and SPASH can afford to run stress free at sectionals. I think ultimately this impacts state because the SPASH teams are well rested and stay reserved from the Conference meet onward. This totally boosts confidence at that time of year.
Madison West makes a strong case for this honor 2004 to the present and theyve had to beat some teams where 16:25 to 16:35 is the 5th runner just to make it to state on top of enduring a conference slugfest in the Big Eight that seems to constantly churn out bordering national class runners. In track the Big Eight is almost at times as high powered as the state meet. You cant mention Madison West without its main rival Madison La Follette and then also the new wave of Middleton runners.
