I have tried working this out and cannot come up with anything. My guess is that the numbers they are using are not the numbers they should be using like from two different pools of numbers.

Though I'm not foolish enough to think a nut like you would listen to reason (and somehow manages to inject politics into EVERYTHING), I always feel like I should point out actual facts in case anyone else would be swayed by these kind of lunatic comments. So, then, how do you explain that the countries in the world with the longest life-expectancies, yes 9 of the top 10 -- and 23 out of the top 25 -- are social democracies that are far to the left of the US???? (Singapore is not a social democracy and South Korea is maybe arguable, so it could be 24 out of top 25). Do us all a favor and crawl back into your hole. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_life_expectancy

We like to think modern medicine is "advanced," but compared to how fast other areas of technology are advancing, it's really in the stone ages as a result of how stringently government controls everything from how doctors are trained to what medicines people are allowed to access. If the government controlled computer technology as ruthlessly and tyrannically as it does medicine, we wouldn't even have the Apple 1 yet. So thanks to the leftist notion of omniscient, omnipresent, paternal government, our kids are dying from things that should have been curable 50 years ago.
A few years ago, I did extensive research on LE (life expectancy) for a book. Here are some interesting takeaways from that research.
The USA's relatively low LE is often attributed to the lack of socialized medicine, but it's not that simple. Poor diet, obesity, and racial diversity also play significant roles. Asians, who have the highest LE, regress when they move to the US and eat a western diet. Obesity reduces LE by 3 years and the US is one of the most obese nations in the world. Severe obesity reduces LE by 10 years. African Americans have 7 year lower LE than whites in the US. (Almost all of the nations with the highest LE had a relatively homogeneous white/Asian. population.) Other significant factors affecting LE were education level and economic status.
Perhaps of most interest for younger LetsRunners, LE once you reach age 65 is increasing at 1.5 years/decade. It currently stands at 84 in the US, but that's misleading, because most people reading this post are nonsmokers, not obese, college educated, and average income or higher. Your LE at 65 is already over 90... and increasing with each decade of medical advances.
Yes, all very well and good, but how does running factor into the life-expectancy equation, and more specifically, intense competitive running??? I'd imagine very few that make 65 get past 90.
I didn't say the reason was solely due to a lack of socialized medicine. I was responding to the nutty assertion that the reasons were due to the "leftist notion of omniscient, omnipresent, paternal government", which is laughable considering that "leftist...paternalistic" countries have the highest life expectancies in the world. I have no doubt that there are myriad reasons for relatively low life expectancies in the US, but "leftist" government is not one of them. In addition and ironically given the nutty poster's screed, US government and policies have generally moved to the right since the 60s, so by that view it should be thought that "conservative" government/policies are to blame...
63.3% from 1946, the year I was born;
78.8% from 1947 ~~~ THAT CAN'T BE RIGHT

Not sure the methodology but this data is clearly flawed and inaccurate. I love how someone launched into a rant about the health care system because they really believe that 6.5% US of fourth graders have already succumbed to medical ailments.

They didn't just "launch into a rant" - they were facing the FACTS without worrying about all this PC crap. You think that more than 93.5% of innocent babies make it to 4th grade? You've been watching too much FAKE news. Fake. Very fake.
Darned you, Obama! Darned you to Heck!
Many diseases that were essentially eradicated in the West have again become a problem with open borders and HIV over the last 20-30 years; small pox, TB, even b. plague are a few examples.
Absolutely nobody cares about this but you three who keep posting under different names.
1. You can find anything you want to believe in the internet.
2. Quality of life my friends, not quantity.

Actually, other than HIV, the resurgence of diseases you cite are due to the anti-intellectual, anti-science, anti-government, anti-vaccine types.

Actually, your response to a statement of scientific fact is nothing but name calling in the fashion of a college freshman Cal. I draw on decades of hospital-based practice to validate my assertion. Another fun fact; I once attended a lecture where stats were provided about the massive increase in oral gonorrhea among middle schoolers in the Philly area. The epidemiologists concluded through patient interviews that the increase was due to a certain President's followers insisting throughout the media and the educational establishment that oral sex is not sex.

Congratulations, top trolling.
