If you are going to get addicted to something , coffee is probably the best thing going. I think it's a good idea that if you don't do it, not to start.
I have been drinking it pretty much since your age and it is a bad and sometimes stupid habit.
Why is it bad or stupid?
I've been drinking coffee almost daily for decades and of course I don't have the alternate path to look at, but as far as I can tell it's done not much for me, good bad or otherwise.
I drink it black or with a splash of milk, so no weight gain concerns. It doesn't give me much effect anymore, but it kicks off my day and I enjoy the taste and sensation of having a warm drink, so I keep doing it.
I also like the ritual of making my morning cup. I prep it pourover style these days, which takes about 5 minutes. I do it right at the start of my workday and it helps me get my brain into gear -- probably more so than the actual coffee.
I've had short-term negatives, e.g. when I've had too much or had it too late in the day or whatever. The only long-term negative I can see would be money. These days I spend around $30/month on beans. Better than when I used to go to Starbucks twice every week day.
