Floundered in MSU?? She ran a 9:33 SC and a 4:27 mile her senior year. Then while still training under Drenth, ran a 9:18 SC in her first season as a professional. I'd say she's floundered at NorCal if anything.

So what? Runners at the international level always pick the cheapest coach and lowest cost of living area.

You think Portland has a lower cost of living than Sacramento/Davis? Phooey.
Leah ran great career at MSU.
She stayed for a year and got lost in the shuffle due to Walt being a college coach. Her 1st year with Nor Cal, she ran 9:18 steeple at Pre Classic before getting hurt again. She has been injured/unfit in this her 2 year with Nor Cal. She is racing a steeple in Zagreb tomorrow. She will stay at Nor Cal. Loves it.

Incorrect on the timing. Correct in that she had a great career at MSU. She ran that 9:18 while still training under Drenth. Pre was May 2016 and she didn't join NorCal until Aug/Sept 2016. See article below.

I think you meant to say "Kate Grace Sold Out"
Pros can train wherever they want. They pick the coach, not the other way around. Typically they'll get they have their husband, brother, or boyfriend as coach to keep the money in the family. Runners don't get paid much so they always train in little pee-hole villages that no one ever heard of.
Lauren Wallace left this group in june- soon it will be down to just kim
9:31 for Leah today in Zagreb. First steeple in 2 years. Great place to start. Couple steps behind LaCaze.
Please stop basing NorCal.
Drew is doing a fine job in SacTown. NorCal is regularly producing world team qualifiers and Olympians without a $1Million+ budget like Brooks Beasts, OTC, NOP, BTC, etc with athletes long lost for dead.
FYI: Kate was semi-forced to depart NorCal because the higher ups at NIKE gave her the following ultimatum:
-- Either take a big reduction in her NIKE contract or join NOP without reduction. Sorry to burst everyone's bubble. Drew is a quality coach.
Bush League NIKE politics at play once again. These insecure jokers in Beaverton are, and long have been, ruining the sport.
Nowadays, the ONLY way NOP can get athletes is via salary / reduction scare tactics (why do you think Murphy joined after not making a world team this year?). Who would want to join a group whose head coach is being investigated by authorities far more important and powerful than WADA/USADA?
Sadly, in the end these tactics by NIKE hurts the athletes as well as the clubs and coaches who put in long hours to develop these deserving athletes that no one would originally bet on.

Thumbs up
The theory that Nike forces athletes to join OR PJT doesn't make sense. It and BTC are the top company-sponsored groups, and it is an honor and a privilege to be accepted into either one of them. There are many, many distance runners who are sponsored by Nike who are not part of either of these two groups, and I don't believe that every one of them has been reduced because they refused to move to Portland.
If unpaid, how does Drew make a living. Kim alone can't make enough for the family can she?
Nike PR stunt.
They know Engels and Grace are well liked. Engels brings in the males. Grace used to be a symbol for the underdog feminist (Oiselle), and still carries that fan base.
Capriotti is being strategic. He knows the book is about to be thrown at Salazar and that NOP has horrible PR.
Out with the tainted individuals, in with people that weren't there.
It's all PR. It's sad to see Grace give into the Capriotti plan.
I really thought she was better than that.

+1
It is easy to bash Nike, but think about where the sport would be without the Nike contract dollars supporting runners (let alone the big USATF sponsorship).
Kate could have stayed with another company, but we believe in athlete mobility and being a free agent to go after the best offer for their time and talent. She chose that, but the trade off for more money is giving up some of the decision making about where you live and who coaches you.
It may be better for an NBA player's development to stay with one coaching staff, or they may prefer to live in one town. But they sign a contract that gives up some of those rights, so if they get traded, they go or they can quit. No different.
Fredo Corleone (legal name: John Capriotti) had a hissy fit when Kara Goucher covered up the Nike Logo at #London2017 awards upgrade ceremony.
Kate Grace is paying for it.
She's joining one of the Portland groups. Doesn't seem that big a deal to me.
Why pick on Kate Grace? wrote:

Of course I went to look this up.

I'm surprised Kara just didn't got out there in say just normal dress clothes and get her award if she didn't want to be in Nike stuff.
"Thank you IAAF, for honoring me but I'm not going to wear the Team USA uniform since i'm not on the team".Are they going to say she can't get her medal?
"Did Nike force Kate Grace to join the Oregon Project or have her contract reduced?"
Really?
Kate butchered the English language pretty thoroughly in Instagram message about leaving NorCal. Maybe this bad writing really is an Ivy League thing.
