And SI wants to see it too.

I've got Malcolm by 20 meters.
This should be followed by a one on one b-ball throwdown.
Malcom would smoke him. He might even lap him.
It is on like Donkey Kong!

Gladwell ran 5:03 at 52 years old at Fifth Avenue Mile 2015. Since I don't think Lebron can crack 6:00, I've got Gladwell by 300m.

Like when did a mile race ever start from a crouch? Shows you how much SI knows about T&F
If LeBron is going to to a track and field event for fun, it wouldn't likely be a mile. He would be much better at any running event below a mile, any jumping or throwing event, and very likely hurdles as well.
SI: you don't get into blocks for a mile race.

NBA players have an extremely high aerobic capacity. Someone like Ray Allen or Steph Curry are constantly moving off the ball, both could easily run sub-5 on any given day.
Lebron would sit on Malcolm the first 3 laps then bust out a 55 second last lap. It wouldn't be close.

You're a fool if you don't realize that ANY super-elite male athlete can break 6 easily. There's a decent chance Lebron could go sub 5. Plenty of college basketball stars have been known to.

I've heard plenty of anecdotes both for my own alma ma and other colleges.
If you don't believe me, on page 3 of this thread from just a month ago, someone compiled all of the sub-5s for UNC over the years. There are dozens from just ONE elite college basketball program.

You're comparing "ONE elite college basketball program" with a *record* of 4:36, likely by a lanky young kid to a 250-lb pro basketball player and a 150 (or less?)-lb lifelong distance runner who can still run a 5:00 mile. My money is on the runner.
