No way is a 265 pound man running a 4:20 mile, regardless of how much HGH he takes.
1. Half of the times people brag about in high school were run over the "field mile". We used to run a conditioning run in our football pads on the "Field mile" and it was amazing home many guys were in the 6 minute range, with our helmets--WE WERE ALL FUTURE OLYMPIANS!!! I went back a few years ago and measured it on my Garmin--0.8 miles.
2. If Ashton Eaton, a heavy yet trained track and field guy can only muster a PR of 4:14.48 over 1500 meters, LeBron is going to have trouble breaking 5:30.

3. To settle the issue once and for all, they should bring back the TV show "Superstars", though I have to think that the modern athlete's persona is so wrapped up in being the best at everything, even things they haven't tried but that their fan boys just KNOW they would dominate, the show would never be made, it would break too may fragile egos. Go ahead and read about Smokin' Joe Frazier's swim, that is how I envision LeBron's 4:20 mile attempt going.

I think the same is true for exercise guru Richard Simmons. I'll bet he could run 4:20 for the mile, but there's no money in it, and few on LRC would give him that much credit.
185lbs for his height actually isn't that heavy.

Stupid, of course. But cute.
Well done!
According to athletic.net:
In 2017
23,085 Boys ran 4:58.26 or better in the 1600m
2,073 Boys ran 4:59.99 or better in the full mile.
So you are telling me that over 25,000 14-19 year old boys can toe the line against LeBron in a mile race, and he would finish last?
This doesn't even account for the females and middle schoolers that accomplished the feat.
So there is that...
Yet more stupidity.
Good job!
Yes, he would finish last - if he could ever finish.

He's 60 pounds lighter than Lebron

It's fascinating that a track athlete like Carl Lewis ran 2:16 or whatever it was. That's JV high school track, maybe a little better. CL was literally the world's fastest human at the time, right?
It just goes to show how different endurance speed is vs. sprint speed. Both genetic and training.

Maybe this will put the discussion to rest. Carl Lewis couldn't even break 2:15 in the 800.

AR: Willie Gault! This is your specialty right here. Right?
WG: No. I'm a sprinter.
AR: Yeah, but you're coming alive now. Right?
WG: No
Hilarious. You could tell he was dreading it. "How did I get talked into doing this. Dammit!"
By the way, it is refreshing to see these superstars with modest / self deprecating demeanors and attitudes (except Carl Lewis). People had decency and manners back then.

The weight makes a huge difference. Eaton isn't really that big but LeBron is an absolute beast. I highly doubt a relatively small and fast guy like Steph Curry could run a 4:20 mile either. Russell Westbrook probably could because he plays basketball on pure hate so he could channel that extreme rage into running.

Why not? 4:20 isn't fast anyway, maybe for a high school junior.
Hey man, I'm still pretty excited about the 4:59 I just ran. Don't be mean!

And??????? He probably ran that on an indoor 200m per lap track and thought the 2 laps were 800m :) No Way he ran 2:03!!
FYI, There is no such thing as a "Relaxed" 800 in 2:03 for a football player who is 6'3 185. I've run 1:49 for 800m and 3:54 for the mile. 2:03 (61.5 per 400) is no walk in the park. Easy for some but not most middle distance runners.
Oh and don't forget:
"Gault qualified for the 1980 U.S. Olympic track team and would have participated in the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow had the United States not boycotted the event."
A bit of track experience helps of which LeBron has ZERO.
Considering what the top decathlets run a 4:20 is never going to happen...

Watch the superstars video previously posted and you'll see he ran 2:03. By himself, he looks like he could have gone much faster if challenged or paced. But as stated earlier he's 40, 50, 60? pounds lighter than LeBron (and younger at the time).

Just to illustrate how limited Lebron's skill set is:
His career average free throw percentage is 70%. A decent high school player can do better than that. So lets say on an average high school team two of the starting five players shoot better than 70%. The average high school probably has two or three more boys who can beat 70% but don't have the height or other skills to be starters on the varsity squad. There are about 27,000 high schools in the country, give or take a few thousand.
So you could put Lebron in a shooting contest with 100,000 high schoolers, and he would finish dead last. So he's not even a great all-around basketball player. And people think he could run a 4:20, or even a 5:00 mile?
His only talent is that he's a better inside basketball player than the rest of the tiny percentage of men who are as freakishly tall as him.
I'd bet every dollar I have, and will ever make, that Lebron can't run 4:20 for a mile. It always amazes me that we can watch world class decathletes run 1500m and then watch 400m and below runners struggle at even 800m, but some assume a guy that looks like Lebron is going to be significantly better than them at a mile? Lebron is an explosive, world-class, once in a generation plus, athlete, but not way he's a 4:20 miler.
Its a much better debate whether lebron could run a 5:00 mile. Anyone saying that he could run 4:20 is either a troll or completely ignorant to the topic of running
I think it's an interesting question and I honestly have no idea.
My personal guess on the subject:
5:20 [after a half a dozen or so tries at it]
tho I imagine if he trained specifically for it he could break 5:00
lets not forget: dude is old and getting slower these days
there's always been a huge discrepancy between "basketball fast" and "everybody else fast" [eg football players]
basketball players are really among the slower professional athletes
in a mile it would be something like:
soccer>football>rugby>baseball/basketball
I would imagine for middle distance performance
