This is in the suburbs.
I was running in the town square, where it's considered the hub of our suburb, where there are convenience stores, restaurants, the library, and it's a long stretch of 1-2 miles long.
I was switching my music when there was a girl that ran past me. I didn't want to be a creep and look at her from behind (she was wearing short shorts) so I decided to surge past her and run in front of her. (I was wearing short shorts too).
There are stop lights and I always play it safe. So when I reached the red stoplight and waited for the pedestrian cross, that gave her enough time to catch up to me. Instead of waiting for the pedestrian signal, she just ran ahead and I decided to follow.
This happened for a mile and then I asked her if she wanted to run together.
Our paces were incompatible and we held our earphones in our hands. I remember her saying that since we were talking to each other, it made it easier for her to run.
I asked a lot of questions and talked to her like how a regular LRC frequenter talks to beginner runners - I knew what I was doing but I couldn't stop lecturing with all the info I know from running.
She was aiming for a 2 hour half-marathon.
Anyways I don't want to go into the details. It was so awkward from my part. We ran side by side and our elbows brushed against each other.
She also said that I looked like I ran a 6 minute mile. (I felt a bit flustered).
In the end, I feel like I was being so smug and patronizing talking to her about running while we were running.
Please tell me, LRC, what kind of stuff do people talk about when they run together?
Do we run in silence together? I want a running buddy. I've ran alone all this time and this first time devastated me. I know we'll never see each other again, but this scarred my ego. (I'll toughen myself up, but it makes me cringe).
I'm chugging a Four Loko right now. I MUST.
