It was great to see Sandy get some press in Ohio today. The video shows details of her run is very interesting and definitely inspiring. However, doesn't Guinness specifically not allow a support vehicle to follow the runner. That was one of the unlawful acts of RY's run that would have disqualified him in addition to his cheating allegations. The video shows her support vehicle following her at runner speed which is dangerous on the open road and why it's not allowed. Hopefully this video doesn't get out to them and disqualify her from an official record certification.
I don't recall seeing any such rule from Guinness about vehicles following. And the video is on country farm roads, not much traffic. They are not breaking any traffic laws.

There is no such rule. As the video explained the car stops every half mile or so to give her food and drink. Mimi stopped a lot during her run and the URC chaps claimed it was no big deal, she was getting food and water.
From that video, I didn't get the impression that the vehicle continues to follow along slowly like it did with the RY attempt. Rather, it appeared to be inching up to her between pit stops. Thanks for posting that video. It was packed with a lot of interesting info germane to the task.
From the video, she appears to sometimes be breathing through a bandana. Does anyone know why?
this is amazing, no? wrote:

The weather has been cold might be one reason. The other reason would be to cut down on UV on the skin.

In general a scarf is useful in cold, dry weather to keep the air you're breathing more humid and more comfortable.
I don't know if that's why Sandy's doing it. Might be dusty as well.
Or maybe she just thinks it's fashionable or is doing product placement for a sponsor. ;)
If I recall with Rob Young, the rule stated in the thread was that the runner couldn't travel behind the RV. I don't know if that rule was ever verified. It was also speculated that he could hop on the back, hang on to the ladder, and thus appear to be putting in the miles while the vehicle crawled along at seven miles per hour or whatever. So, it makes sense that this could be a rule.

The crew has posted about nobody running in front of her. I expect the rule has to do with either pacing or drafting being artificial assistance. (Of course hanging onto a ladder would be as well but that's obviously not the only concern.)
I haven't heard it yet, but Mimi is back on MarathonTalk this week.
I wonder if she mentions the LRC trolls? I hope not, as in some way that would validate them, and most would end up even more furiously wanking over their keyboards at the excitement of it all.

It's available from 52:20.

The trolls weren't mentioned at all. There were a few on here who said Mimi would blame the trolls for having to pull out of the challenge. Yet another thing they were wrong about.

Interesting conversation.
Some points that stood out to me:
- she had been planning this run for 3 years and was singularly focused on the record. Nothing else mattered.
- she had been in pain for 3 weeks
- she had been compensating for the pain and altering her stride
- her crew thought her knee was the problem but she thought it was everything but
- she was still reluctant to quit at the end, her crew eventually convinced her

And she was genuinely upset/tearful at having to quit. Tom Williams, the interviewer, was trying not to use the "failure" word, but in her view she failed.

Whoever posted Pete's video, thank you very much.
I don't see it posted here anymore... did someone remove it?
If so, I wish people would stop messing with this thread and just let the discussions continue.

I noticed that in the Pete K. documentary too. No one was running in front of him. I wasn't sure if it was a sign of respect, for safety, or if there was more to it.
I'm listening to the Mimi interview now. It's pretty good. From the prior comments I take it she's not going to mention the "stalker" from LRC who was arrested? Seems to me that would have been an interesting topic.

There was no staker from LRC. That was just a normal weirdo doing the: " If you see something, say something" thing.
With her running vest, Mimi looked like a suicide bomber on the way to Washington DC.

Exactly. In small town USA Trump has warned them that suicide bombers are coming to their town. Almost as dangerous as small town dogs that are unfenced and are free to roam the countryside and attack any runner who moves.

Damn it, don't you people realize that these small town dogs are the number one reason 2G/3G/4G networks don't operate properly in the entire Western half of the U.S.? Wake up sheeple!!!
