Sandra Vi going for record across America

Sandy's mileage is a little heavier than Pete's from this point so far, mostly due to Day 1 (Sandy deliberately followed a paved trail out of the San Francisco metro area, instead of a more-direct -- and heavy-traffic -- route).

There have been some other small adjustments here and there . . . Pete K. and his sister (who was advising him on mapping issues last year) are constantly advising us and we are trying to shave every extra mile possible. My hunch is that Sandy's total mileage will wind up REALLY close to Pete's (within 5 miles either way). But that's just a hunch.

On a side note, it seems Garmin's MapShare is working better now than earlier this morning (I was also having trouble pulling up all of her breadcrumbs from today, but the last time I checked, they were all there).

Also, thanks for your daily updates and summaries . . . they have been very informative and helpful throughout the last few weeks!

Sandy's ticking off the miles like clockwork - she continues to be impressive in her consistency. Meanwhile, I'm looking forward to reading more of the reporting/concluding on Mimi, that's been such a guilty pleasure and the back-and-forth's here yesterday was very interesting. We'll see. As I said, Pete and her sister are working with us to improve upon his route from last year; I think we will be shaving a few miles in Illinois off of Pete's route last year.

Regardless, the main thing for Sandy is just to stay healthy and focused. She could walk the rest of the way and smash the current women's transcon record, but she's in a total groove with her dialed-in routine.

Without bothering to look back through So Far's posts, I've noticed that Sandy's 5M splits are consistently ~65-70 minutes all day every day. It would be interesting to see a plot of the distribution of 5M split times.

At least there is one intelligent URC member after all. Props to Ross.

Two remarks:

- Jenny Davis, if you were responsible for social media and Strava, you failed epically. No Strava updates for many days, tracker was turned off often and people asking reasonable questions were portrayed as trolls and haterz.

The two most notable changes from Pete's route were San Fran, as was mentioned, as well as Walden, CO where Pete was able to take some gravel roads south of Walden. I would imagine those roads were not plowed after the snow storm, causing her to stay on 14 up to Walden.
