We organized it by getting lucky that a few essential people agreed to drop everything going on in their lives at the last minute and join Sandy in her journey, namely Cinder (the driver/owner of "the Mothership" (the RV), as well as the official crew chief/cook/masseuse/doer of laundry/etc etc, and Jay, who drives the support vehicle that actually crews Sandy throughout the day, every day. Others have come in to crew Sandy as well, from a day or two all the way up through three weeks (Roger). And, of course, having Pete K. continue to share all of his knowledge with us (inlcuding his route) is huge.
Beyond that, I'm pretty wired into the ultrarunning community in general, and we were able to get support from lots of other key people, like Badwater RD Chris Kostman, the UltraDOC, Chris Roman, and many others. I'm chipping in with coaching Sandy, building/maintaining the website, and getting out on the road to run with her starting on Friday night.
It took (and continues to take) a village! But we all truly believe in Sandy and are all excited to help.
