Kiprop said he will still run the 1500 but for Championship races he wants to shift his focus to the 5000 from here on out.
Kiprop has been at Worlds in the 1500 since 2007. and won the 2008 Olympics and Worlds in 2011, 2013, 2015.

We need him to. No Kenyan wants to run the 5k at the moment. But if he and Kwemoi move up, then they can lead a Kenyan 5k revival.
That is a joke! Kiprop will get shaved on the legs! Seriously Kiprop is lazy and will give up even before one season is through.
Kiprop did not win the 2008. CLEAN Ramzi did! Face it KIPROP was DOPED too. Kiprop cant get EL G record anyways. Good move moving to 5k.
Truth!
kiprop is one confused guy.
This is the smart move, though in my opinion one year too late.
I know there was some talk of Kiprop suffering from injury at last year's Olys (to say nothing of poor tactics), but I think he's lost a step in the speed department. The kick just isn't quite what it used to be--and it really used to be something.
He's had a good run at 1500m dominance. 2008 to 2016 is nothing to sneeze at. Looking forward to watching him take some scalps in the 5k.
It will be interesting to see how Kiprop fares in the 5k. The training and race mentality are so different. Some can make the switch like Lagat.
I'll say this; I've been a fan of Kiprop since World's 2007. So fun to watch when that kick gets him in full stride, he's been the most electrifying racer ever. It's like he was in a different race than the rest of the guys. BAM! Just amazing.
Thanks Asbel for the inspiration and entertainment.
El G was great but probably was not clean. Who knows if Kiprop was clean? Cleaner than El G, I'd wager. So perhaps Kiprop is greater than El G, and is the greatest of all time.
The 5000 is just as much of a kicker's race as the 1500. If Asbel can't kick in the 1500 anymore, he won't be able to kick in the 5000.
I think Asbel this year will be like 2011 bekele, getting in full shape a little after worlds, I don't think his kind is gone it looked great in the heats, he just made to quick of a move to get up with the other two and it cost him in the last 200
Meant kick* not kind

Personally I think that he is finished.

But...remind me again who failed the drug test and who didn't? Hmmmm.
I think Kiprop is gonna be a force in the 5k, especially if Kwemoi can stay healthy. Plus if Ndiku hasn't totally peaked (which I think he did 2-3 years ago) we'll see a powerful Kenyan squad of 1500 guys moving up. Remember, Kiprop and Ndiku are both former world junior xc champs and Kwemoi ran a great 10k.
Kip will not be good at the longer distances due to his stride

Since 2007 he's had one subpar season, 2017. And he's still only 28. Yet you think he's finished?
Word is he's always had superior talent and taking it easier than his partners in training. This year's failure will probably spur him to actually work harder than he's wanted to in his career. The best is yet to come.
Don't know what to think of this. He's one of my absolute favorites due to freakish ability but I've doubted for a year or so how seriously he's taking this. The old looping devastating moves now flatten out and sometimes aren't there at all.
IMO he errs by believing his only option is the back of the pack. How often is a runner tripped? Don't rely on fear when fear is attached to a low percentage.
A huge talent like that actually sacrifices some of his advantage by forcing himself to not only time the rally perfectly but execute it perfectly, and without poor racing luck. In the Olympics last year with such a slow pace it was pathetic to watch because Kiprop had absolutely no idea what to do. He moved and dropped...moved and dropped.
In the 5000 he'd have more leg room since those races now don't figure to be as congested and predictable as during Farah's era. It would be foolish to envision them mostly the same merely subtracting Mo. Now you'll have many runners experimenting with tactics and prepared to take it out faster.
Hes got balls. 5k hurts a lot more than 1500

Cause it's not possible to shorter your stride...
He's a miler and should stick with it

Come man. He has lost fitness. I did think that Kenya should have sent him in the 800m not 1500m but 5000m is likely the wrong direction for him.
